Friday March 20th, 2026-What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Friday again folks.

Been a heck of a week here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" with having to clean up after Mondays Blizzard then getting a return of that Sinus infection as a reward for my efforts.

So as I work at getting back to Abby Normal,

What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

We had a really nice spring day yesterday. I spent some time outside plus doing a bit of cleaning, organizing, regrouping in the garage; can't say I accomplished great things but it felt really good to be outside.

I need to take the recycling to the drop-off center then run a couple errands today. Hopefully, a little more time in the garage after. Granddaughter's car is past due for oil/ filter/ service so will try to get that done this weekend. Mrs. has to work this weekend so I'll likely get some general orders as a result. Church Sunday.

Working away at a pile of wood, turning it into roughed out bowls. Still have about 7 more to go. Locust, crabapple and flame box elder.

Birthday celebration for a friend this evening.

Miter saw station stuff continues. I am quite confident my retirement plan will not include any more cabinets after these are done!

This is the current status - cases are "pretty square" and are also quite level (finally). The shop floor slant is definitely not helping.

Next need to figure out where some electric is running before attaching to the wall (the wall isn't fully built out as it was put up just to separate the workout room previously). Did screw the cases to the base. Drawers and the top are also on the to-do list. Mitersaw along with dust collection will go in the space.

spent Friday prepping for a show today in the huge metropolis of Cedarbug. I expect only 1 other person on here to know where this is and he's suffering from a sinus infection currently. turned out we did over twice as good as years past. Tomorrow it's more time in the shop making the parking spot signs for this years Elks leadership officers.

Mitersaw station work inches along. Going with double layers of 1/2 inch plywood for counters on the top of the cabinets and will double up 3/4 plywood for the mitersaw support surface to avoid sagging (just a single layer in the picture). Nothing connected yet, but starting to take shape.

Odd situation when I went to cut some plywood to beef up the mitersaw support surface. I don't have another large piece of plywood so decided to cut a couple scrap sections to glue to the bottom of the one large section that's in the picture above. Well, there are gaps (see arrows)

Tried cutting again with same result. I checked my fence and it seems that when I line it up with the miterslot (per the Powermatic instructions), the fence is tight to the miterslot in the near and far ends (arrows in pic) but seems to have a very small deviation through the middle (blue area).

This seems odd, and I'll recheck as I was tired at the end of the day and a bit frustrated with this issue on what should have been a 5 minute cut/prep. Maybe the deviation with the fence check is a miterslot issue and not the fence? I did remove the fence when we needed to use the tabletop for the base assembly, but alignment seemed OK when I slid it back in place. There is something happening to cause the "indents" at the start and end of the cut. Any suggestions on what I should check? Hoping I'm just missing something obvious (and easy to adjust!).

If you have a long straight edge or level, you could check the fence to make sure it is straight. Check both sides looking for a low spot in the center on one side and a high spot at the same location on the opposite side. This would indicate a warped/bent fence. If one side is good (flat) and the opposite is off, it could be the plastic material attached to the sides

I thunk Lew hit it, it's very unlikely your miter slot off, and if you can find the fence has a low spot in the center you might be able to shim that plastic out with masking tape or such to make it dead flat. If it's the plastic itself it can replaced or swapped with the other piece. Heck if it's only off a little it (the plastic, can be planed to remove any dips.

@lew Thanks, I'll see if I can get a decent straight edge on the fence to check. Using the miterslot it appeared to be minor but need to look with fresh eyes.

@Fred W. Hargis Jr Thanks, I'm not sure how that outer plastic (or whatever material that is) can be replaced. Will check on that as well.

if you haven't already clean any sawdust accumulation from between the plastic and the metal fence bar. my grizzly saw gets build-up quite often so I clean it every month or two

Barb, on the inside of the metal tube will be a screws holding that in place, there should be an access point to those screws on the bottom of the tube.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't seen anything like that (maybe varies based on the fence design).

Thank you! I didn't realize that until I flipped it over when trying to find a good way to look at the flatness of the side. 🙄

Hopefully I'll be able to identify what I did wrong or to make any needed adjustments tomorrow. As I've been moving tools around, was thinking I need to set aside time to go through all of them to check setup like when I first got them. Seems like the project at hand gets my attention.

I think you'll find that you don't need to completely remove those screws, they should be in a kind of keyhole slot...so you loosen them and then slide the facing backward or forward 1/2" or so and it comes off.
