Time to say hello

Just thought I would say hello and introduce myself.

I am 81 years old and retired from law enforcement. I started my career in Buena Park California has a police officer but soon moved back to my home town of Folsom California where I joined the police department and later became a Detective. Prior to retiring I obtained a job with the California Correctional Department, Folsom State Prison, from which I retired. I have been married to the same lady for 65 years. We moved to Oregon in 2012 and here I shall stay. My first woodworking project was a doll rocking carriage made from 103 pieces of oak end cut scraps I got free from a local cabinet shop. That was the start  and 55 years later I still try to continue with new projects. My latest being a 4 handle guill lever for one of my Shopsmiths which was converted to a decated drill press. I am now working on a storage shelf for my new Shopsmith 510.

Welcome, Ozzie.  Another Shopsmith owner. I am curious how many Shopsmith units you have, how many are running and which models.  You did mention a 510. The 2 machines I have were built as 500 in 1985. I converted one to a 520. Man, is it nice. I need to clean and was the carriage and the tube's. It wants to hang up about the middle of the bench. First thing this morning I will remove the headstock and carriage, wash it with mineral spirits,  clean inside with mineral spirits and the wax. After reassemble, will turn little snowmen. But glad to have you here Ozzie.

Thank you for your many dedicated years of service in law enforcement. Congratulations on your 65 years of marriage as well; both notable and admirable achievements especially by today's measurements.

Welcome to the forum. Would like to see some of the projects you have done .

Welcome aboard Ozzie. Thank you for your many years in law enforcement.  Guess I'm the oldest member here at 94 years old. Had to give up my woodworking at 92 because of health issues but love to keep in touch with the great guys here. We do have a few Shopsmith owners here.

Hey, AL. Glad to know that you have been privileged to live as long as you have. You have been a great mentor to me. You loaned me a great book on bandsaw boxes. I purchased my own copy and look it over occasionally.  I am so sorry that you had to quit working. I am also very happy that you are here to mentor and inspire. Blessings to you, my friend.

Welcome aboard Ozzie!  Great to have you with us.

Thanks to all for your warm welcome. To answer FIGatorwoods question, I have owned several Shopsmiths thru the years, my first one was given to me by a friend who cut off a couple fingers with it and decided he no longer wanted it.  At the present time I did have three. A 500 that I turned into a decided drill press. Another 500 that I disembied and and sold the parts today for $100 dollars. The last one is a 510 I picked up a few weeks ago from a guy who bought it seven years ago for his wife who never used it. He bought it from the guy who bought it new in 1987 and rarely used it. It was in near new condition and I paid only $200 for it, I thought it was a great price.

What part of Oregon? My husband and I (and dogs!) traveled by RV for many summers to enjoy the cool temps on the coast. We haven't been back since 2019 (Covid changed plans and then some family situations made long distance travel from Missouri not ideal). Hope to return this summer as we miss the beauty of the state.

Hi BB1. We live in Grants Pass. We moved here in 2012 to get out of California. Actually we would have moved to just about state to get out of a California. However my son lived here so that made our decision

Been through Grants Pass many times. Including once when there was snow and snowing and it was a nightmare on I5. The country there is beautiful. I moved from San Diego to British Columbia to get married to my sweetie pie.

Had to check a map. Never been through that area - closest was when on the 101 and then one year we did go to see Crater Lake (so beautiful). Oregon is so pretty with coast, mountains, and farmland.
