Larry Buskirk Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 Halloween Folks. Not doing much here this weekend, not looking forward to the time change. What's on Your Weekend Agenda? Gunny, lew, Grandpadave52 and 1 other 3 1 Quote
lew Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 Finally got all my tools put away from last Saturdays EWT demo. Started a donation for the Turners Warehouse and Easy Wood Tools fund raising efforts for the Saint Jude Children's Hospital- https://www.turnerswarehouse.com/pages/ornamentcharityauction. Hope some of our turners will consider doing the same. BB1, Gunny, HandyDan and 1 other 4 Quote
Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 Not much going on here. May get out to the shop and take a stab at a pet urn. Halloween makes me miss the "good ol' days" more than any time of the year. You know: when we trick or treated on Halloween night instead of Sunday afternnon, started at dusk and walked until we couldn't stand up, we didn't have parents escorting us because there was no need, and our candy didn't need to be checked for tampering. Oops, sorry for the nostalgia. lew, Gunny, HandyDan and 1 other 1 2 1 Quote

I saw people, on local social media, asking which locations had the best candy/treats. Fred W. Hargis Jr, Grandpadave52 and Gunny 2 1 Quote

Popular Post Grandpadave52 Posted October 31 Popular Post Report Posted October 31 After all the wind filled days this past week including today, time for yet another round of the pick up sticks game ahead of the final round of mowing next week. Other outside projects need attention ahead of what will be coming. I haven't decided yet how I'll use that whole hour the gubmint is giving me; thinking about camping overnight to be first in line. That reminds me, need to pick up extra donuts...gotta go... Bubba, Fred W. Hargis Jr, lew and 2 others 1 4 Quote
JWD Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 I lived so long in Arizona that I kind of like the change back to standard time. DST just feels right to me, and I'm usually so brain dead after working all day that I don't much care if the evening is light or dark. On the other hand, I'm getting to the age where I no longer care much about which way the issue goes so long as they finally retire the time change one way or another. Never seen a better example than that of the adage "None of us is as dumb as all of us!" My plan for this weekend is to make some progress on the backlog of grips waiting on my bench - just getting to the hard part, pattern routing a bunch of end grain. Yuck. But usually the anticipation is worse than the actual job of it. Also considering making a few cutting boards for friends. The last couple were very popular. Another chore to tackle, making ledger board mounts for an eventual porch on the south wall of my house. It's taken me a couple years to work out the details, but I now have a solid plan and just need to get around to cutting and welding..... lew, Grandpadave52 and Gunny 3 Quote

It remains amazing to me some of the dumb stuff that gets passed and nothing ever seems to get repealed. I just realized I messed up my abbreviation - I meant MST - mountain standard time as opposed to mountain daylight time. I don't like acronyms and abbreviations much, too much duplication in what they might mean - living so long in AZ, and never changing off standard, to me MST was always Mystery Science Theater Grandpadave52, Fred W. Couple of my favorites were San Francisco International and Space Mutiny. My ex and I still trade MST3K quotes. She had never seen it before she met me in the 90's, now she remains a die hard fan. She's found various streaming sources over the years, but youtube is the only one I remember that has some. I remember there was a reboot also, it was on Netflix for a while. We have streaming service called "Tubi". A lot of them are on there including some newer ones from RiffTrax. If you have Tubi, try and find RiffTrax version of the "Brain That Wouldn't Die"! Popular Post kmealy Posted Saturday at 09:08 PM Popular Post Report Posted Saturday at 09:08 PM We're on the western edge of Eastern time. There used to be a guy on my team who worked in Boston and when he visited, he said it was much lighter here later in the evening. (Him being on the eastern edge). Indiana used to be a bit different, except for up near Chicago, that was on central time. I think they might not have gone to daylight saving time because in the summer they used to say "fast time or slow time." Anyway, one daughter lives in the western and northern edge of Michigan. All of Michigan is on Eastern time, even though she is north of Green Bay, WI, that's on central time. And Kentucky is split, part on eastern, part on central. Anyway, I set some clocks back already and I put up the bird feeder that I made on Thursday. Hoping the squirrels don't find it. Thursday, I rebuild a mirror frame, about 3'x4' for the furniture bank. It had those crazy pressed in fasteners in the corners that don't hold well and the glass was hot glued in and held with a few staples. I'll go back next week and reinsert the glass and use my framing point driver. For those unfamiliar with a point driver, it drives flat pieces, either longer ones for picture framing or shorter (glazing) ones for windows. It works kind of like a stapler, but the points go out parallel to the base and not perpendicular like staples. lew, Grandpadave52, Gunny and 3 others 6 Quote

Sort of ironic that I want to paint before the minisplit is installed BUT I need the room warmer to paint. Get a radiator heater, set it at max and just let it run. That size shop will take a bit to warm the room. Will at least keep it above 55F but probably take a day to get it there. I use one in my finishing room all winter. Set on low with medium temp it holds that 10x12 room to 60F. If I go high with max temp it was 90F. lew, Grandpadave52, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 2 others 5 Quote
