Popular Post kmealy Posted July 14 Popular Post Report Posted July 14 (edited) RE: Glues. A number of years ago, Bob Behnke came down and gave a glue seminar for the club. He showed Quick & Thick on an end grain joint and it worked extremely well. Since then it's all I use on mitered picture frame and boxes. https://www.titebond.com/community/the-big-three https://michiganwoodworkersguild.com/wp-content/uploads/documents/Titebond-Glue-Documents/Titebond-Wood-Glue-Comparison-Chart.pdf Edited July 14 by kmealy Larry Buskirk, steven newman, lew and 4 others 2 5 Quote
Popular Post JWD Posted July 14 Popular Post Report Posted July 14 The day job is taking up most of my bandwidth for the next several weeks. Summer maintenance where we pull a 2.5m telescope to pieces, clean everything, and put it back together (hoping that it still works afterwards!). Over the weekend I went with my ex to look over her new house, make sure it's new AC worked, and install some deadbolts for her (I like to key them all the same so there is just one key for the place). Word is she got moved in today and all went well. No donuts involved, but I had some wonderful Italian chocolate cake at a cafe I like. Not too sweet, very rich, with a cream cheese and whipped cream frosting. Love that one, always worth a stop there if I'm in that city (an hour away from my place). I had hoped to get in a little woodworking over the weekend, but all I ended up doing was assembling a cork handle (rings like a fishing rod) on a Helle knife blank. I haven't shaped it yet, but I will post a pic when I do. The knife should float, last one I did this way floated. Not that there's anywhere to fish nearer than an hour from my house, and that one isn't deep enough that it would matter much if your knife floats or sinks! I just like cork DuckSoup, Grandpadave52, HARO50 and 5 others 7 1 Quote
Popular Post Grandpadave52 Posted July 15 Popular Post Report Posted July 15 Another Monday late to the party. Not much accomplished over the weekend. Too hot and humid to do much in the garage or outside for that matter plus thunderstorms both afternoons. Did get in a little gardening work before the storms hit. Today, wasn't feeling too perky so not much accomplished. After the weekend rains, it'll be time to mow again this week except the forecast calls for afternoon thunderstorms daily through next weekend. The weather guy said we're having Florida weather except there's no ocean nearby. Need to haul recycling sometime; maybe get some gardening work accomplished; might find something to tinker on in the garage; nothing really fun though. I may just stay in where it's cool and try to get caught up on reading posts here. It's been too hot and muggy even to enjoy a donut. Larry Buskirk, DuckSoup, steven newman and 3 others 1 2 2 1 Quote

Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted July 15 Popular Post Report Posted July 15 My weekend was uneventful, I'm finding that old age doesn't mix well with heat/humidity. My normally slow pace at doing anything comes to a virtual standstill. Anyway, one thing did happen hat surprised me. We have a number of military flights over the general vicinity, mostly large cargo planes and helicopters. But Saturday an Osprey flew over. I had only seen them on news clips and in stories on the History channel, etc. It sure had an unusual sound, not exactly like a chopper, but not like a propeller plane either. Anyway, shows you how boring things can get for me when we have the summer doldrums. JWD, lew, steven newman and 4 others 6 1 Quote

Several years ago there was a public display at the Purdue Airport where one was brought in. We were allowed to walk through it, talk with the crew and later watch it take off, do a short flight, then land. Really cool. They also had a couple Blackhawks there. Those are amazing but actually kinda scary. steven newman, lew, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 2 others 5 Quote

When we were building a house a couple hours from Albuquerque I used to see Osprey's now and then flying over when we went to Albuquerque for supplies. Pretty cool aircraft alright! I'm still very partial to A-10's however. I lived under the Davis Monthan flight path when I was in college in Tucson. Steady stream of A-10's some F-16's and the odd Harrier now and then. My dad went to U of A in the early 1960's and said back then it was B-29's (as far as I can remember anyway) coming in to be scrapped. No AC for most buildings then so the classroom windows would be open and he enjoyed the sound. steven newman, Gerald, lew and 4 others 7 Quote

We lived in the Kansas City area back in the 80s and A10s flew out of Richards-Gabauer air base, it was common to see them buzzing around back then...very cool planes. That air base was closed in the late 80s (I think). Grandpadave52, steven newman, Larry Buskirk and 2 others 5 Quote

kmealy Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 There was just a news clip about a local business expo. Behind the desk of one of the people interviewed was a map of Ohio, about 14"x14". Each county (of which there are 88) was in a separate colored wood. There is one county in Ohio that is square (the one I grew up in), all the rest have irregular borders. I hate to think of how much time at a scroll saw this took. But it looked nice. Grandpadave52, Larry Buskirk and lew 2 1 Quote
Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 That would be a cool scroll saw project, but I doubt I'd ever get the pieces to match together if I cut each one out of a different wood. lew, Larry Buskirk, Grandpadave52 and 1 other 4 Quote

Larry Buskirk Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Spent the past couple of days planning/running conduit from the boiler room (lower level) to up through the upper-level into the attic next door to feed power to a couple of A/C window units, and the exhaust fans in the upper-level duct work and replacing the Cupola exhaust fan with an old Homart belt-drive hole house exhaust fan. Of course the motor was non-reversable so searched through the motor pile and found one that is reversable but already set up to spin the right direction. Taking power taps off of the boiler circuits to break up the load on the store circuits. Can't run the exhaust fans off the circuit they're on now due to tripping breaker without shutting something else off. Figured since the boiler circuits aren't being used now, there's where to take the taps off of. Sure, is HOT! up in those attics, haven't been into the HOTTER of the two yet. Waiting for Bruce to get back so I can get the Cupola fan going to cool it down some before going back up there. Fred W. Hargis Jr, lew and Grandpadave52 3 Quote
