Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted June 23 Popular Post Report Posted June 23 The heat kept me in the shop or house for most of the weekend.....and much of this week I guess. I'm working on a small case to store Marie's CDs. Being trapped indoors i might get it done this week. lew, steven newman, Grandpadave52 and 4 others 7 Quote

Popular Post John Morris Posted June 23 Author Popular Post Report Posted June 23 Tell ya what, during the summer our electric bill to cool our 1600 sft home down to 78 degrees is between 350 and 500 per month, depending on what I don't know! Visiting our friends back in Aiken South Carolina a few weeks ago, we were talking utility bills, in the summer they run their AC 24/7 to cool their home about the same size as ours, and they cool it down to 72 and their bill never exceeds 180 bucks a month! And I'm thinking shoooo, with that low of a bill, I can cool my future shop down in addition to our home during the summer out there and not worry too much about the power bill. Popular Post kmealy Posted June 23 Popular Post Report Posted June 23 Got the a/c serviced and working again. Yippee!\ Working on the phases of 3 picture frames. One of the pieces of glass was a "some days the bear eats you." I could not get a straight line trying to cut the piece to size. Must have had some weak spots, or at least that's my story. Six cuts went fine. Next two on the next piece were a disaster. On another note, one of my sons-in-law is the CTO for a small company making ion thrusters for satellites. No kidding, look it up! There was never a doubt in my mind about that! You also put most of them into public office! I have a window AC in my shop (detached) that could probably be one size larger (It's 10K BTU) but it works well enough I can work out there without discomfort. I also run a dehumidifier, it's on all the time in the summer, the AC runs only when I'm in there. Edited June 23 by Fred W. Hargis Jr Gerald, Larry Buskirk, Grandpadave52 and 5 others 3 5 Quote

Popular Post Handfoolery Posted June 24 Popular Post Report Posted June 24 Heat wave all week. Today's heat index was 108. Needless to say I won't be in the shop again until I can do so without stroking out. Grandpadave52, Larry Buskirk, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 6 others 2 7 Quote
Popular Post John Morris Posted June 24 Author Popular Post Report Posted June 24 If you guys don't mind me asking, anyone want to share their electric bills? I'm really curious what you guys pay for AC in fly over country and in the east. HARO50, steven newman, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post kmealy Posted June 24 Popular Post Report Posted June 24 Here, we're sort of in the middle belt, not too cold, not too hot. I just re-evaluated our electric supplier. Since we have a heat pump, we get a discounted rate 8 months of the year (colder weather). It turned out that for us, that worked a better than a cheaper rate that was not discounted. But to answer your question, we have a roughly 1700 sq. ft. single story and spend about $100-150 a month for everything including hot water, electric dryer, chest freezer, and household appliances. steven newman, Grandpadave52, Fred W. Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted June 24 Popular Post Report Posted June 24 We're paying about 16¢/KHW, which is a steep increase over what we paid when we moved into this house 7 years ago. Since we average about 1800 KWH monthly over the year, the average is almost $300. We are totally electric, including the water (well). Our heat is also heat pump, but it is a ground source. We do have a gas cooktop (and furnace, which hardly ever runs). DuckSoup, Grandpadave52, steven newman and 3 others 6 Quote
