Looks like the item they use to buff out cars

Speed is a critical factor in buffing and could have caused your problem with Beall. Then second is pressure. You are just buffing so a light touch is essential. I had lots of problems buffing lacquer till I learned these two essentials.

 

Also remember with that style buffer the center is much slower than the outside.

I agree. The problem with the Beal is sometimes the wheel is larger than what you want to fit into so you have to push a little harder. The Beal wheel is also more coarse where this disc is very soft. With this small disc on my die grinder it is very simple to use. I don’t think you could mess up the finish if you wanted to.
