I made some progress on my segmented frames for the quarter displays I've been working on, got out the vacuum press for the veneered backs and got the segments cut and glued for the next 3 rings (4 total). I've lost my veneer saw, I've only had it for about 30+ years and was always able to keep it safe but I guess 2 moves of the shop and some time since i last veneered anything was more than the saw could take....so it jumped ship (or, I just lost it).

Saturday was woodturners meeting and it rained cats and dogs after we started till meeting ended after noon. Sunday after church tried to get a little rest before hitting it again this week in the shop. We are downsizing and of all things my wife was looking at a display cabinet she thought was a corner cabinet but it was not. They wanted 175 so out of price range so yesterday it came up as 25 to pu Sunday only. OK so I gave in and we went to pick it up. I really don't thing the word downsize is in her vocabulary.

I'm pretty sure it's against the law for wives to say (or even think) of such a thing.

My woodworking over the weekend consisted of this activity:

Loosely fill with decaying, dead wood...oak, maple and this one had some peach

Fill the voids and remainder of bed roughly to half depth with smaller sticks and branches. I never run out of inventory of those.

Finish fill to half depth with dirt and "fines" from stick piles. Then top off last 5"-6" with garden soil; roughly 8-10, .75 cu ft bags.

4 are the right were trial beds last year; worked really well. Four on the left new the past week. All but the back, left are now planted. Beds are 3'x4'x1'.

Hope to get one more row of four setup this year. These have our tomatoes, bell peppers, radishes, carrots so far.

We also planted in our regular garden bed, 12 rows of sweet corn, 6 rows of beans, 2 rows of beets and two rows of peas. Rows are ~25' long rows.

Started today with Doctors appointment...well technically Nurse Practitioner. Actually I think she is more in-tune than my previous PCP doctor ever was. After appointment with her, she sent in the vampire crew to "blood let" me. Go back in a couple weeks.

Baseball games next three evenings, weather permitting. No one has mowed my yard so I guess I'll have to think about doing it. Probably nothing else fun this week either except assisting an oversize raccoon that has destroyed bird feeders receive lead poisoning vaccine. Buzzards need to eat too. I still prefer donuts.

12 rows 25' long  of corn????? Man, you'all (y'all) really like corn! We'll have 5-20' rows and that's more than we can eat (I don't put any up).

Yes, we do. Two teenage grandsons and one granddaughter can eat a row of roastneers at a setting.:P. But yes, wife and daughter can quite a bit plus freeze some.

Six rows are short season (63 day); six are full season (85 day). I haven't planted short season for several years. Usually shorter ears. We'll see how it goes.

I finished the name plate I was making for the youngster next door. Thanks again @lew for the lacquer suggestion. I have never used lacquers and using a spray can I was able to put 5 coats on it Saturday morning. I have become a lacquer fan especially since you don't have to sand it between coats, that would have been hard to do using poly with the raised metal letters.

I also managed to find a shop fan on Amazon. It was under my $150 budget, had good reviews and has a feature I didn't see on any of the other fans I had looked at, 2 wheels on the base so I can easily roll it around the shop.

20" oscillating 5000CFM with 9' power cord.

I have started another project but it has little to do with wood but I will post it when I finish it.

Hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend. I plan to smoke a pork shoulder and venison backstrap Saturday.
