January 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Friday again folks. Been a rather strange first month of 2025 here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" with setting record high temperatures and possibly being the dryest January recorded. (Depends upon how much rain we get today. We're currently at .14" versus the 1988 record of .15" of precipitation for the month.) Yesterday we set a new record high temp of 53 Sunny degrees which had me out spreading more woodchips along the paths going through the yard. My shoulder is letting me know I should have quit earlier today. So, while I sit here giving my shoulder a break and wait to see how much rain we end up with, ... What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
January 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Having a big group at the furniture bank to make tables Saturday AM, then Sunday afternoon moving the small theater set to a church for a fund raiser the following weekend It's small, just two platforms and three sets of steps, but we need to add skirting and trim once set up. In between, hoping to get the chair from Hades back together.
January 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Have 2 items to Rehab over the weekend.. Marking Gauge is a Stanley SW Model.....Plane is a Millers Falls made for Sears... DUNLAP....then maybe a start on a Project for February? Might be one in these KIWI Pine boards?
January 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Cold and rainy here. If it's this cloudy Sunday, maybe the groundhog won't see his shadow!!
January 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Another try and get into the shop for me. Yesterday my blood pressure was 67/66. I had to go to the dialysis clinic to drop off a test and she wouldn’t let me leave. She gave me medication and a bunch of water. Still only got it to 84 , but she can’t make me stay and said I need to go to the hospital. It’s something everyday on dialysis.

Sunday school, worship services Sunday followed by a carry-in surprise birthday party for pastor. Still have to disassemble Mrs. Jeep to replace all headlamp bulbs and that pocket knife that needs sharpening.

Akin to needing to removing engine to change oil filter or spark plugs. I'm sure that design engineer got a big bonus and a plaque for his clever "design." Factory recommendation; remove access caps in the inner fender wells. Great design if you have hands and arms the size of rhesus monkey with nite vision eyeballs on each finger tip. Option 2 is remove air tubes, air filter box, PCM, overflow tank and some relays. Then if you have monkey paws with eyeballs, piece of cake. Option 3 is remove front bumper cover, other trim and fascia, remove headlight assemblies. Only takes about 5 minutes then to change all 4 bulbs. No monkey paws or nite vision required. I'd love to present that engineer with another plaque...which would be the sound made as it bounced off his skull. Sorry for the rant. Thankfully I'm in a good mood today.
January 31, 20251 yr Popular Post Even though I just got in my new Powercap respirator that I’m anxious to try out, our Motorhome ( sitting outside in the northern Michigan snow) has one of the slide outs creeping out. I contacted the company who set me a service manual. I need to run some test on the control board which Winnebago conveniently located under the Motorhome. So I’ll be shoveling out an area so can get my fat a$$ under there with a multi meter to see what is going on. In case you didn’t pick up on it, I’m not looking forward to it, hopefully I can get it all done tomorrow so I can get whatever parts ordered.
February 1, 20251 yr Popular Post Started Wednesday on that 25 foot log that is left from a Willow Oak I have been working at since June. Finished ripping out one log and ripped about half the bark off the other two. Now It will be next week before I can get back onto those logs. Tomorrow going with a friend for the last hunt of the season.

Sounds like that designer worked for two different manufacturers!
February 1, 20251 yr Popular Post Marking Gauge is a Stanley SW No. 61.... As for that Rusty & Krusty DUNLAP plane...? Millers Falls made a "Hardware Store" version of their No. 9 smooth plane..Dunlap was a house Brand for Sears... Old varnish was stripped off, and a couple "coats" of 3in1 oil wiped on the handles... Sole does have a few pits, that will just fill up with candle wax...otherwise this is flat...Under the hood? All cleaned up, iron sharpened up.. Making a few shavings...1 hour's work in the shop, last night..( and if you don't like to get YOUR hands very dirty, don't try this at home, Folks) The No. 65 I've had for a while...The No. 61 is sitting behind it..The #65 was a bit fancier,, With all sorts of Brass parts..the #61? Only metal was the Steel pin...rest I think is Rosewood? Both are about the same age, though... Different "Price Points"? Plane was $16...the No. 61 Marking Gauge was $6...

February 2, 20251 yr Popular Post I have to say that I have always been a dado dodo. Last year when I was making a display case for my daughter's coffee mug collection I ruined two pieces of wood trying to cut shelf dados. I had one straight edge to support the router and twice the router got off track. So I did a little Youtube research this week and came up with what I hope is the cure for what ails me. Based on the videos I found I created a hybrid router dado jig. You place a piece of scrap that is the width of the dado you need to cut between the two skids to sandwich the piece of scrap, clamp the two skids, tighten the 4 wood knobs then remove the clamps and the scrap. I mark a line on the piece of wood I am cutting the dado into...... .....place the piece of wood under the jig, making sure the line is in line with the inside edge of one of the skids, place two same thickness piece of wood at both ends of the jig, clamp everything down to my worksurface then make two or more passes with the router to cut my dado..... ........and voila I have a tight fitting dado for my shelf or whatever I am cutting the dado for and because of two gray edge runners the router can't get off track or so I hope. Next week we will find out if my jig is idiot proof....... ............because I plan to start a shelf unit build for my granddaughter's bed room. If anyone here has built something similar I would like to hear about it.

February 2, 20251 yr Popular Post Had a little fun this morning, took the newish truck out into the back country to test the offroad capabilities on some less than hospitable terrain known locally as the Wilson Tank Trail. Not because tanks ever use it but because some guy named Wilson set up some spring fed water storage tanks for wildlife out there. The approach, departure, and breakover angles are not nearly as good as my old rig but for a full-sized crew cab, it is sufficiently capable of tooling around in the wilds of Nevada.
