His AIT is at FT Eustice VA. He'll be trained to repair the UH-60 Black Hawk, then his duty station will be FT Lewis in the state of Washington. I believe they call it Joint Base Lewis-McChord these days, we used to just call it Ft Lewis. Thanks for asking!
June 11, 2025Jun 11 With that Blue Guidon, I thought he was going into the Infantry. He can go a long way with Black Hawk repair, and Lewis is a great place to get assigned.

Well, those basic training brigades are typically deactivated infantry, as was the case where Jeroid trained. 165th Infantry Brigade Ft Jackson. A pretty storied past originally activated in WWI and participated in wars up through the cold war, and was deactivated into a training brigade. Here's a little history on it. 165th Infantry Brigade (United States) - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Hey French, sounds like you know a little bit about his MOS and station?
June 12, 2025Jun 12 Not really; there's always a need for helicopter mechanics, both in the military and outside, and it's one route to becoming a helicopter pilot. I did a quick layover at Lewis on my way to training in AK back in the late 80s. The NW has always been a favorite of mine, as long as you don't mind a little rain.
October 28, 2025Oct 28 Author Popular Post Just a little update, our son visited us over the last couple weeks after his stint in AIT at FT Eustis, he flew out of here this past Sunday to his duty station Ft Lewis Washington or more recently known as JBLM (Joint Base Lewis McChord) Army/Air Force. He is in-processing this week, getting all the stuff out of the way, rules, regs, finances, moral and wellness, speaking of, he took this picture on his tour of the MWR unit where he and his buddies will go to sign up for activities and fun stuff, this lake is right behind the MWR (Moral Welfare Rediness) building on base, and I am completely green with envy, ready to join up again myself! 🤣
October 28, 2025Oct 28 Popular Post Congrats to your son! It's a life changing move to be sure. My dad was retired USAF and met my mom when he was stationed at McChord. Something kind of odd.. In the photo the soldiers name tag says "Pacheco". That was my mom's maiden name. I have lots of memories growing up. We lived all over the place and overseas. Edited October 28, 2025Oct 28 by MrRick
October 28, 2025Oct 28 Popular Post Ah if only we had such places on base when I was in. Who am I kidding, like I spent much time at base. Was off on a mission, recovering from wounds or out exploring some country.
