July 4, 20242 yr comment_338309 Hey folks, does anyone know how to make this deer, or know where I can get a drawing of how to do this on the bandsaw? Thanks! July 4, 20242 yr Author Popular Post comment_338319 @HandyDan, thanks Dan! I guess I meant more than just plans, in my own mind anyway, I also need to know how to make it. Are there instructions anywhere on what steps to make the cuts? I've never done anything like this before. Report
July 4, 20242 yr Popular Post comment_338321 It's not hard John. You put the pattern on the prescribed piece of wood, one part of the pattern goes on the top of the piece and at the line it folds down over the adjacent side. Then you bandsaw out one side of the block taping everything back together, then saw out the other side. There was quite an explanation on Woodnet about this, and it's bumped to the top every year around Christmas. But when I looked it up it's so old all the pics have disappeared. Report
July 4, 20242 yr Popular Post comment_338322 I would think cut the front profile first since it is less detailed. Tape the pieces back on for stability and cut the side profile. I've never done it either but saw it done as described. Report

Sounds easy enough, so basically I can print out that plan Dan gave us, adjust to whatever scale I want. Tape it on a piece of wood and fold over one edge at the center-line of the paper. 1 minute ago, HandyDan said: I would think cut the front profile first since it is less detailed. July 4, 20242 yr Author Popular Post comment_338327 I am more partial to the pattern the lady was using on the Shopsmith though. But you guys got me started and thank you for that! Report
July 4, 20242 yr comment_338349 Never done one, but have seen Alex Snodgrass do it in person a few times...in under a minute with no pattern. Your video link showed a guy building a guitar John, at least for me. Search out Alex Snodgrass, Reindeer. Guessing that's the pattern you're after. Most everyone copies his version and technique.
