May 25, 20242 yr Popular Post Well, yesterday, I finished up using a #45 as a Plough plane, to cut grooves with...then it was packed up.. And put back up on it's shelf...This mornings hand tools started here.. Yes, it is a hand tool..as I need to get a few pencils needle sharp.. Plus a square and a mallet..and a bit of sand paper..goal being to work on the drawer sides...They need tails milled on the bandsaw, but... The square and a sharp pencil was need to lay the tails out. Drawer sides were as trimmed to final length..on a "Mitersaw" A "Cordless" one, at that...Langdon No. 72c.. It does a good job of making a square cut.. And it was very busy, this morning.. When I need a mallet to drive these home..yep, we getting better...thanks to those very sharp pencils Jig building, did require a cordless drill.. To build a jig to do dados...Plane is the Stanley #45, Type 4, set up to cut a 3/4" wide dado for the drawer's back to sit in.. Mr. Jackson is there to make kerfs cuts at the entrance and exit points...to prevent any blowouts.. Dados were also cleaned up with a 3/4" wide chisel.. Test fit... 2 dados done...only 14 more to go..

May 26, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Mitersaw was in use last night...as the tablesaw was still unavailable.. That Pine 1 x 4? I needed to cut a couple pieces at 21-1/2" length.. Problem was... The 1 x 4 was a bit too wide..needed to loose about.. That much? Too much to handplane down, yet We have ways.. . THEN a plane could be used.. Stanley No. 5-1/2 Jumbo Jack kind ot laughed at the knot in it's way As for the 3rd and 4th Dado? That reflection in the side of the plane, right under the handle..is my face. Yep, it IS that shiny.. . But works great...only need to do 12 more Dados..then it too can go back into it's own case..
May 27, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Did you know...that IF you rubbed a candle along the tooth line of a saw...it will cut much better Whether it is that big old Disston D8 Rip saw..or that little Jackson Back saw...seems to help reduce any friction IN the kerf. Also in use this past weekend..a Stanley No. 71-1/2 Router plane..and a 3/4" wide chisel... BTW... Top 4 drawers are assembled..#5 and #6 are ready to be...
