Had a lady from the Chicago area, I believe, want a special gift for 1st generation Polish kids (if 30+ are kids anymore) getting hitched.  I cleaned up the Old English font a little and call it Old World.  Has been the most popular for Polish items.

Hey John, I love it. I just got a little tiny question on your choice of lumber, I have seen it in a few other of your pieces. It's just a very constructive critique full of humbleness and hesitation that I even say this. But I was wondering if you were to use solid lumber for your work, the work you put into it would stand out more and prettier. There have  been a couple pieces I have seen that you have done recently and the lines from the different glue ups, like butcher block lines, In my very humble opinion, take away and distract from the lettering and carving.

You may have an absolutely genuine reason for using the butcher block style lumber, I hope I have not offended you John, in any way, it's just a layman's observation is all. :)

I was wonderin, if lumber is tight, perhaps two pieces of wood glued together or even three glued up so the lines are perpendicular to the text and carving, but the multiple bowling alley lines, it may just be a matter of taste too, my taste is not always the best, I still like Avocado green carpet and mustard color Ford Grand Torinos:lol:

So you can't really use my critique as a barometer of current fashion and style.

Geez, Mr Morris Sir - you don't have to try and be so politically correct in your assessment and opinionated thoughts.  My feelings don't get hurt that easily:throbbinghead:

My items are not high dollar premium stuff.  Using (and finding) solid oak  boards like this is prohibitively expensive.  $90 a board compared to $15 a board.  I make too many mistakes to use the expensive ones.  Plus single boards that wide will cup and bow.  The ones I get are finger jointed at the mill 1 or 5/4 x 12 x 48 -  finished on all 4 sides.  They go down to the basement and stack fairly easily and have all but eliminated the need for a jointer and planer.  I think the mill could do a better job matching the shades and grain but I either take them or not.  I have adjusted my files to fit these widths and sizes, since i also get maple and poplar in the same dimensions.  I usually get a couple hundred at a time so some look better than others.  But they all get used.
