Ran across this at a local on line auction.  I don't have the item just their pictures.

Looks like a crimper of some sort.

Maybe some type of load or lifting device? Looking at the attached tag reminds me of our certification tags for lifting devices; e.g Max 1000lb capacity; possible a device tracking/tag number?; I think I make out term MIL STD perhaps meeting a Military/DOD specification.

 

Looks like it has an enclosed gearbox operating the jaw via 1/2" or 3/4" square drive. The facilities where I worked made numerous lifting devices and tooling specific to our product lines. ID tag was for tracking purposes in the tooling system as well documenting when/where used in the operations written work instructions.

 

So with all I've just rambled on about, I have absolutely no clue how this might be used.

Only extra word I can make out is clamp. I think maybe attached to a press to crimp cable.
