It seems to take about 40 pounds to activate the sensor.

I'm sure the wife's purse weighs at least that, no wonder she complains of a backache. <_<

Last time she cleaned the coins out of it there was over $63.00.

Did some research and yes it is real walnut burl veneer. Actual walnut burl in fancy grade so far looks pretty pricey and I don’t think I am up for veneering which would be relatively inexpensive but it’s always a pain. I will think about that. Probably for a year or two.

Good plan. No need to rush into something. After a couple years of careful consideration should determine if this project merits getting placed on the long term, round-2-it list.;)

It’s not like she will ever be in the car with it. If she is in the car it will be in the trunk. Besides she hates convertibles anyway 🙄

Could you make some minor modifications where she could hold it in her lap while riding?

I've got a vague memory about someone who could paint plain pine or MDF to look like fancy wood grain. Surely there is a trick out there to paint the effects of burl onto less interesting wood. Heck, with the tech available a sharp photo of walnut burl veneer could be printed on vinyl you could wrap around the main board.

If it was one of my ex wives complaining about straight grain VS burl I'd offer up the option of black paint/ebony stain to remove the visual distraction.

She would like to see it made in Burl but likely she will rarely if ever ride in the car. She rode maybe once in any of my other convertibles. Doesn’t like them. Noisy and the messes up her hair. We came to an agreement many years ago. If she is along for the drive it’s in her car. It’s not all that bad. Her sports car is a Shelby Mustang GT 500. Just not a convertible. Her daily driver is almost as fast. She has always liked her cars fast and judging from her choice of me, her men slow 😳
