Decided to continue this in the “what’s on my lathe” may be drug put so will put it all together here. 
 

Looked a lot larger when started. 
 

 

After close to a month drying in kiln time for second turn. 
 

 

finished and lacquered the bottom.

 

 

That means we turn it around and turn to finished surface for the top.

That gets it to the point that the top in lacquered in gloss black. Up next is where it gets interesting.

Almost completed today. Started by turning out the bowl. I have not left a bead above the bowl rim before and decided to try. 

 

got a bit ahead of myself and remembered to take a shot of the hollow. After hollowing clear lacquer is applied. Now time for color. 
 

 

This is what it looks like with paint. The wonder about the paint by Josana is that they all just look white so you have to label the cups you mix it in . Now to let it dry a couple days and then more clear lacquer.

That’s really cool! How did you keep the paint from getting into the grooves?

You paint before hollowing so the bowl is natural and the grooves are cut after painting. The purpose of the grooves is to stop the paint from going too far.

That is just plain awesome Gerald. Those colors really pop with the black lacquer. Gives it so much depth.

Actually it is more like a bowl with a very wide rim. The rim is decorated.
