November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post Can't let it slide by... So, what did everybody get done over the weekend...Be sure to change the names of the Guilty Parties..... Seems I made a LOT of this stuff...ankle deep under the saw... So...plans for the week?
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post We are getting into out annual "Thanksgiving prep" work this week. In a sort of Zoom call (actually a Face time call, I think) between Marie, our daughter, and 3 of the grandkids yesterday it was decided that dinner would be at out house. Even though that means I do most of the cooking I was not consulted on what my choice would be. Well, that and I may have to mow the lawn this week. If it rains I may do some rearranging in the shop. November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post Rototill a section of the garden and plant some garlic. Probably end up at a friends house to do some plumbing repairs. Need an uninterrupted day to try that pine tree turning.
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post I got a whole lot of NOTHING done. Probably get more of the same done through the week.
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post Did the Goblins get @John Morris? He hasn't been on since Halloween.
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post shot a pistol match, 4th of 13. church sunday. that's about it. i'm thinking i'll decline invites for thanksgiving, just stay home and have a quiet day. not a big fan of large groups. went to the neighbor's last year, about 12 folks, didn't know most, find it hard to chat with strangers when they want to chat with other family. little project in the shop, just waiting for paint to dry. then i should do some clean up down there later.
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post Got a few outside things accomplished Saturday. Yesterday, paid the price I guess. Spent the afternoon and evening with a heating pad trying to numb the back pain. Prefer to stay off Rx pain medication if at all possible. Evenings busy this week. Meetings at church tonight and Wednesday. Oldest grandsons basketball games TU/TH. Really need to mow+mulch leaves. Not today though; 40+mph winds. May spend some time stumbling around in the garage with the warmer weather.

November 6, 20232 yr Author Popular Post The day before elections..and you are surprised by the High Wind? Errands have been run...too short of a nap, today.....may have to fix that..
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post bonus chore done: got a 3rd, and hopefully last, coat of poly on my back beam above the doorway (large 8x8). that should seal the wood and cracks up nicely and keep it looking good for another 5-7 years before i have to do it again. i'll check tomorrow am, and if needed, apply a 4th coat to seal up the small cracks (large cracks were sealed with clear caulk last time, and that caulk is still in good shape). take care of your house, and your house will take care of you.
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post Spending the day at home for Thanksgiving. My daughter is planning the meal. I feel your pain Dave, Back aches are never-ending.
November 6, 20232 yr Popular Post The weather has been nice enough to play in the shop. Have all the sleigh runners cut & need to stain them, then on to the bodies. Thanksgiving at our house, we do turkey breasts, bottom round and pork tenderloin, fowl, cow & sow.
November 7, 20232 yr Popular Post Did I miss something. Thanksgiving is not until the 23rd on my calendar. I think @John Morris has let Cali get to him and ran for sanctuary. Got some finish on the last items for this week at the Ag Museum demos. And not near enough on a couple other projects.
November 7, 20232 yr Popular Post Gerald, with Marie's disability she starts baking in late October/early November for Thanksgiving....it sometimes takes her 2 days to get a batch of cookies done (not 48 hours, more like 6-7 hours spread across the 2 days). But I have to work around ere schedule to help her and find time in the kitchen to do my stuff.....it's a bit laborious but that's the way things are here.
November 7, 20232 yr Popular Post My T'giving prep is cutting out parts to assemble in O-Hi-O. A small bathroom vanity. I picked up a sheet of birch ply over the weekend and had it ripped down to where I can handle it a bit easier - it may be the poorest quality sheet of ply that I've seen in the last 2-3 years Purchased at Big Blue... I'm hoping that I can get a shot scheduled in my back before making the trip, been on light duty for the past couple of weeks.
November 7, 20232 yr Popular Post Got the Costco and Lowes runs done, yesterday. As typical, Costco was a mad house. Phyl picked up some meats. I drooled over the seafood. But, was satisfied with a couple bottles of different whiskies in prep for the holidays. One son is hosting a Thanksgiving on Friday after THE DAY. We do the Christmas feast. Usually a rib roast and lobster. That will mean a trip to the butcher shop. You can't count on Costco to have what we need.
