Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! July 31, 2023

Over the weekend I picked up about 25 boxes of parts for charity boxes (enough parts for hundreds of them) from a friend whose late father was also in the woodworking club.   Got them all sorted out.

There were a few problems, and I'd be embarrased to send them as is.

  • Some of the boxes should have literally been labeled "Pieces of wood too small to save."
  • He had used a branding iron to mark "Jesus loves you" and "Hand crafted ... with God's help"   Unfortunately, at least one of the charities will not accept religious information.
  • No piece of scrap worth throwing away, some boxes made of OSB, plywood, edge-glued together different species of wood, or rough, dirty, glue spotted, or finished edges or faces.  Too small to run any of those thru a planer or jointer.
  • Puttied joints everywhere.
  • A bunch of pieces of 1/8" thick plywood face glued, with gaps and joints everywhere.  Purpose?!

So now I have about 8 boxes of scrap to be dumped in the burn bin.

What's plan B Dab?

the house has a day tank, 450 gal, that the RO feeds into (after treating the water in the cistern), and another pump then runs that water thru a UV light and carbon filter before it goes to the taps.

we also have rain water tanks, one at 3000 capacity (it's at 1700 presently) that can gravity feed to the day tank thru a window, and two other tanks, 2500 each that have pumps in them that can feed up to the house via hoses, also into the day tank via a window.  so i'll use rainwater in the interim until i can get the cistern pump swapped out next week some time, and then go back to using that water and reserve the rainwater for another day.
