Our daughter has some auto immune issues and when she's having a flare up she needs a cane. Couldn't find one with a handle she liked so she asked to  make her one. This is one of those turnings that isn't real flashy and doesn't look like much but it is one of the most difficult things we do as a wood turner IMO. That long taper is tough to do, at least for me. The wood portion is about 33" over all, 1" at the top and 3/4" at the tip. Our son did the resin cast for the knob. The shaft is white oak and looks good at a glance, hands will find some low spots though.

 

 

You did a beautiful job on this one, Steve! Really like the cast knob, too.

Great cane. Funny is when we think we will make ourselves a cane and wait til we really need it instead of doing it now.

You've done many beautiful projects Steve, but this one has the beauty from the heart. Well done sir!

Wonderful Steve.  Your daughter will love the low spots since daddy made this for her.  Another useful item we as wood turners can craft to show we care.  Love it!

Looks great! And each times she sees or uses it she will know how much her family supports her. Literally and figuratively. Great family project.
