My happenings

Well I've been kind of missing in action lately, my wife and I embarked on a trip to South Carolina and Georgia a week and a half ago and we just got back yesterday.

We visited my ol Army buddies wife and kids in SC, and we also looked at real estate in Aiken SC, we love that area. Then we traveled to Ft Stewart GA and visited our Army daughter for the better part of a week.

After a major fubar at the airport and a two day layover, we finally got home and it's back to reality!

I'll post more about our trip with images, all I can say is WOW! The south is lovely and the hospitality is alive and well, it was so nice getting out of this Kali bubble and into the real world. :)

Welcome back @John Morris!

Not much wood turning this past week. Tried to start putting finish on a platter only to find the poly had gelled in the jar. I used up my can of "air duster" that contained Tetrafluoroethane. I've tried two other dusters that contained other gasses but both reacted with the poly. Difluorethane and another one, trifluoroethane I think, both cause gelling. Need to find a local supplier. Bloxygen (Argon) is an alternative but more expensive.

Edit: Well now I'm really stumped! The last can I tried was Tetrafluorethane!

At the vet with dog right now for checkup . Plan to spray some lacquer on friendship bowls today and work on finishing embellishing the last 4 of them . Need to do a little flower bed work but supposed to hit the 90s today.

Back to box making...one corner at a time...

Welcome back @John Morris!

Looking forward to more of your thoughts, and Tonya's, about your visit to the right coast :D

As for me accomplishing anything... not so much... but real happy to be here!!!

Took our dog to the vet for Annual shots and wellness check. She's 6 lbs over weight. She weighs 32 lb. Bought some different dog food (diet stuff) and pledged to quit giving her table scraps.

Started the process of replacing the blade clamps on the scroll saw. Then it got too hot. Today (Tuesday) Phyl has an appt with a heart specialist at 10:00 and it's an hour away. Should get back home around noonish. Time for a light lunch and a nap. It'll only get to 96° today. Might try to finish work on the scroll saw.

Sounds like you had a great time and were able to relax a bit @John Morris. Looking forward to hearing more about your trip and experiences. Hope you were able to enjoy sample some good low-country cuisine and especially partake the nectar of the south...sweet tea.

Daughter, SIL and 3 of grandkids on their way home now from a week in Gatlinburg, TN. We've been going to their house every other day to feed, water, litter box detail for the cats. About 20 mile round trip. Youngest grand-daughter starts her summer job tomorrow; 3d on, 2d off, 12 hour shifts. Gonna take some adjusting for everyone. Oldest granddaughter talking about coming home to visit for a few days. Couple of meetings this week.

Hoping to get a little shop time in that doesn't include fixing something. Well see. With the drought, mowing is on hold as is burning the ever growing brush pile.

Spent the weekend revisiting a reclining lounge chair design I came up with back in my 20s that I rediscovered when cleaning out my utility storage room. Never built it because as it reclines it drops down and opens up, but to come up it needs some powered help.  Tempted by a Youtube video maker (John H) who upgraded his standing drill press with a linear actuator to lift and lower the table, I order a linear actuator.   Realized over the weekend that the linear actuator could be the power solution for that old recliner design.   Kind of wishing I had my old failed PC that had a copy of AutoCad Inventor on it as that would be a help with the design.  Also wishing I had the drafting table I had 3 decades ago as I was better at figuring out complex folding mechanisms using the drafting skills I learned in high school.   The challenge is keeping my mind warm and blood flowing at least.

a productive day today:  after morning prayer meeting at church, left there just after 9, went to the lady's house, removed top trim from bookcases, filled screw holes with plugs (total of 30), trimmed plugs flush with chisel, applied a dab of poly to plugs to match;  removed bench seat/storage under the window in same room, reinstalled the outlet, moved all materials to the garage for later use, finalized how to fix the wall under the window and how to finish the brick work (gloss sealer); fixed dining room chair with loose arm, clamped it up and drilled a hole for a Miller dowel, inserted dowel with glue, let dry over night, she'll return my clamp on sunday at church.

left the house at 7am, got home at 3pm - that's a full day.  she even fed me lunch, yum.  she seemed rather puzzled that she couldn't pay me.  no, just say thank you.  got a hug, that works.

honest work feels good some days.
