May 17, 20233 yr Popular Post I designed and cut this from 1/8 and 1/2 Baltic Birch ply. Only took me 4.5 hours of sizing/sawing sheets of BB, drawing the pattern on the wood, setting up the scroll saw and cutting out the design. At such blazing speed, methinks I'm ready for production. NOT! Gotta work on photo orientation, though.
May 20, 20233 yr "Lost my virginity" & you quit smoking, that had to be tough. IMO getting the feel for a new saw or blades by cutting natural items is best, cactus, trees, leaves, no straight lines in nature. Nice design Gene.

Cravings have ceased. But, following a pattern line, straight or crooked, isn't any easier. You are right, though. Cacti, especially Saguaros ain't too difficult. I'm a long ways fom cutting a rose, though.
May 23, 20233 yr Thats good for your entry in to scroll sawing. I doubt if I did that good. A good tip. I would attach Arizona to the back of the cactus with some very small brads so easy to take apart,, which I predrill the holes with a drill bit a hair smaller than the brad, then when the one line is cut between the two pieces the line will be the same on both pieces for a good fit whether you sawed straight or curvy.... You can use a bottom piece just long enough where it will attach to the top board, then so you are sawing flat pieces add a little piece of wood to the other side of Arizona.
May 23, 20233 yr Author Thanks, Jesse. I stacked the 1/2 (cactus) on a 1/8 panel then cut it all. Used double sided tape. The cactus nestled right in the 1/8. Like the first time I lost my virginity, this was a clumsy attempt. Neither attempt resulted in a keeper.
May 23, 20233 yr Gene I have a couple of ideas for your next step. I'll try to post a picture or two in a day or two...... Replacing a hydrant out side I ran over with the mower. The ground is harder than concrete so it might take a few months for the repair for my body don't like that kind of treatment any more..
July 2, 20232 yr Lew, thanks for realigning the picture. Did not notice the state outline until you turned it. Not ready for production work, Gene?????? I hear that is what CNC and Laser machines are now the "go to" machines. That being said, The just an NOT do what we do on our eye-hand coordination creations. Great job.
