Wouldn’t ya know it Woodturner gets new knee and still has not turned his cane. I prototyped the design yesterday and turned the cane in walnut to day. Used a string to lay in the twist. Doing both right and left twist. ACE1E01F-156A-4B0A-95CB-86F5CAE6047B.jpeg.d94619e1c64f683370ec5407a90e267f.jpeg

Start cutting tomorrow if all goes well.

Are you carving the twist?

Yes . Will use Arbortech for first cut, then files and rasps with a bit of spindle sanding before final had sanding.

Nice start Lew. Interested in seeing the arbor tech in action.

Time for a big step forward. Started by cutting the line 1/4 inch deep with Arbortech 4inch wheel.

Then use a micro plane file to smooth bottom and widen the cut.

Also round wood rasps will help at this stage. Now on to the occilating spindle sander . The sleeves wanted to spin on rubber shaft so I used the round end of the belt sander.

Now to round over those shoulders done partly on belt sander and part with hand sanding.

Not yet done . A lot more sanding and maybe a bit of wood burning to add a bit of flair.

Now that's just cool!

Love it!  Looking darn sweet.

I agree. That is very cool ! I love the spiral look and all freehanded. Where did you get the handle ?

After doing all the cutting in one day and most of the sanding it did not take as long as I thought it would. I put down a couple coats of lacquer yesterday and burned in a Celtic pattern and added color.

Thanks for the comments. The wife likes it but said it is heavy, which it is..Half or more again than the one she bought.

That's awesome, definitely a labor of love and it shows.
