February 3, 20233 yr Popular Post We have a contest at our club meeting this month. It has to be a lidded box and has to fit into an 8” cube. I made this but decided not to enter it. I made something different that I like better. I finished the inside with black flock.

February 4, 20233 yr Author Popular Post The main thing I’m not happy with about the barrel are the metal rings. I used steel color model paint and it worked better than other things I tried but still not great. Box #2 is a pecan bottom with a quarter sawn sycamore lid and finial. The finial is a little thicker than I wanted but it is the first one I ever made so I will use it. I am on a time crunch and have to have it finished by next Saturday. My wife liked the second one better too so I figured I would use it. Let me know what you all think.

February 4, 20233 yr I like the shape of the box with the finial. As far as th finial is concerned Lew posted a site with some guidelines for dimensions to keep them looking pleasing. Here is a link to the thread.
February 4, 20233 yr Author I used my Fibonacci gage for dimensions but had to shorten it a little to stay under the 8” guidelines.

February 5, 20233 yr I like the barrel Rusty, it is very cool. I like the second bowl/box just as well. But that sycamore grain on that lid... Wow!!! I can't wait to see a finish on that
February 14, 20233 yr The barrel is definitely unique, but I think the second one shows more technical skill. The finial looks good and the wood selection is very complimentary.
