Fricken nice Static!!!!!!! I love it. Is that the final geometry of everything too? Straight legs, straight top, etc?

The legs, apron and stretchers got a slight profile, the top is staying straight, just broke the edges to make it nice to the touch.

At this point everything is profiled and sanded, the legs and stretchers are glued up and in the clamps.

Next is finishing :)

Love the look of that bench.  Looks good in place as well.   One teacher moment here, but do the short stretchers front to back mortise into the legs?   If so I'd keep an eye on those joints. When Spring hits and humidity increases the top may pop the legs loose from the stretchers.

Thank you for pointing this out,  this was something that I considered quite a bit while designing this piece, and I probably should have included my notes in the description :)

I looked at this as a potential failure point and accounted for that in the design. The tops are notched around the legs with enough room to account for seasonal movement.

The top is 14” total width in flat-sawn cherry which has a current moisture count of 9% out here in Vegas.

This is also the most humid time of year in this region at about 46% outside and 30% indoor.  In the summer that will change to about 18% outdoor and we attempt to maintain 30% indoor but usually wind up about 25%.  Vegas has an inverse humidity for some reason, December being the most humid and June the least on average.

Anyway over 14” with an indoor  moisture change of about -5%  and a movement coefficient of .00248 for flat-sawn cherry i expect a shrinkage of about 1/8-3/16 between now and summer.  There is also a 1/8” gap designed between the top and the legs on each side to allow for expansion in the event that this is ever taken to a more humid climate.

 I scaled this one down

Wow! Impressive. I'm going to try one like that. Though scaled down by a factor of 12.

And you've given me an idea. Since I prefer making smaller items, a copper-lined bread-box for the counter may be on the list this decade.
