Popular Post John Morris Posted January 7, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted January 7, 2023 I love perusing second hand furniture, I love the quality and the patina it has on select pieces I'll see, and I came across this Ethan Allen Made in the USA Solid Maple China Cabinet. As far as production furniture goes, this is a really nice example I believe. I love the color, the style, it has clean lines, I love the imitated old glass, and if you look close enough there is even some curl in places. The price, 850.00 on Craigslist, this is the furniture that I wish younger folks would look out for, or even older folks who are more prone to going to the more conventional furniture sales stores. Because for this price, the quality you'll find at the conventional stores is not even a quarter of the quality this piece is. I don't want to start a topic bashing the IKEA's of the world, or the Levitz and Ashley's, because they have a place, I remember when I was younger, and my wife and I were just starting out on a single man income and barely above min wage, the IKEA's helped us out a lot, not that we had an IKEA at that time, but you know what I mean. Back to my rambling, this is just a wonderful example of what folks could find if they get a little creative with their home decor, and try not to perfectly match everything in the house, I love a home where nothing really matches, eclecticism is wonderful in a home, where nothing matches, but they all appear to be in harmony. This Ethan Allen China set, would go lovely with a Danish Modern dining set, or a Mission style dining set, or? Artie, Grandpadave52, Headhunter and 2 others 4 1 Quote
Grandpadave52 Posted January 7, 2023 Report Posted January 7, 2023 Agreed John. For production furniture, Ethan Allen made high quality traditional furniture. While pricey in their day, their furniture was intended to be passed from one generation to another. The piece you're showing obviously has been well cared for over the years. Yes sir, and they are still pricey today gramps! And some of their furniture is made off shore now, some of it is still made here in the USA as well. Here is a china cabinet they offer today, not nearly as detailed and involved as the one I feature above, this one sells for $4100.00 Brighton China Cabinet | China Cabinets | Ethan Allen WWW.ETHANALLEN.COM Buy Ethan Allen's Brighton China Cabinet or browse other products in China Cabinets. 4DThinker Posted January 7, 2023 Report Posted January 7, 2023 My ex-mom-in-law was a collector of Ethan Allen furniture. I believe every table and dresser and cabinet in her house (which my Ex now owns) was made by E.A.. I made a coffee table for her and was asked to match the color of it to all their other furniture. Maple stain (almost orange) on Maple came the closest. 4D Cal, Grandpadave52, Al B and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post DAB Posted January 7, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted January 7, 2023 sideboard in our dining room, oak, stained to mostly match the adjacent dining table. custom made just for that spot. now a days....do folks even have "china cabinets"?, or just cram their everyday dishes into one of the kitchen cabinets? we say we entertain, but we serve on paper plates with Solo red cups. party's over, put it all in the trash. done. We have some wonderful heirloom glasses and plates and salt and pepper shakers and such my wife loves to display in the top cabinet, the lower cabinet has all kinds of other things she collected over the years, a ton of Princess House stuff when she was a seller. But ya, I do think it's out of style Dab. Al B, Artie, Gene Howe and 2 others 5 Quote

Popular Post DAB Posted January 7, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted January 7, 2023 the left 3rd of that cabinet has 3 drawers, wine and booze storage (i don't drink, my wife liked wine, and she used the booze for baking), the center 3rd has a bunch of fancy crystal and glassware, the right 3rd has more fancy stuff, serving bowls/platters, and a small box of somewhat matched real silverware. so basically, i never open any of the doors anymore. my dinners aren't that fancy or complicated, and if you visit, you are getting served on my regular dishes. and then the kitchen has 44 drawers, all full of stuff, and i only regularly use the contents of about 5 drawers.....life gets simple after your wife is gone. and sad.
