January 5, 20233 yr Popular Post So maybe two years ago I promised my wife a side table. Finally got started. Had a big piece of mahogany for the sides and face frame. Using ply for the bottom of drawer box. using rabbit joints for the bottom and sides. Then Rabbited the face frame for tight fit. Used pocket screws to join frame. Before assembly I needed filler strips for the drawer slides so used some 1/2 inch scrape for those. Time for a test fit. So now time for glue and clamps

January 6, 20233 yr Popular Post BTW, great start and nice job thus far. Great to see you doing some flatwork versus spinning. Not that I'm any good at flatwork but I understand it better...sorta. Following along!

January 7, 20233 yr Popular Post Looks great, although I wouldn't have run the grain on the solid sides horizontal and joined to the vertical face frame sides. Wood Moves, is the title of the newsletter from a norther school of woodworking/carpentry that I can't remember the name of. That table may demonstrate why when Spring arrives and humidity increases. The old teacher in me has to speak up now and then. I apologize. 4D

A little progress made Thursday with the legs cut and shaped. Believe it or not the jig came from a shop our club cleaned out and someone said here take this.
January 9, 20233 yr Author Popular Post Today made progress on the legs.Started with dovetails on legs to accept stretchers. With many options I choose to center them on each side. Then time to cut dovetails on the stretchers. Now to cut off part of the DT to allow to seat fully in slot. Now this is the structure to hold the box. And this is how it will look . Still planning on doing a bead on the legs . Considering on doing the bead also on the Face frame. What is the consensus of opinion on the last part?

January 10, 20233 yr Author Popular Post Today I took 1/8 inch off the legs to create a better reveal. Sanded all and glued the stand up. Also cut the beads in. This is the trial assembly.

March 22, 20233 yr Author Popular Post Been a long beak on this one but now back in the saddle so here goes.Ok didn't get pics of every step. so here goes. Cutting dovetails to insert sides into drawer front. Now to cut dado for back of drawer. and last for today cutting slot for drawer bottom. By the way this is Leopardwood. More tomorrow as I failed to get all the pics of drawers today.
March 23, 20233 yr Author Popular Post here is the catch up and almost final. so first to glue up the drawers which is mostly a simple job when you use sliding dovetails on the drawer sides to face. And the finished drawer out of the clamps Now to install drawer slides Drawers did not fit smoothly and as Steve says "we have our ways" So this is what it looks like til I get the finish on in a few days.
