December 9, 20223 yr Ran across a video from a well respected member over at AAW. After watching the demonstration, I knew I had to try one out for myself....just one tool from greatness syndrome. These are available from Thomson. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I'm hoping it will help with tear out issues in dried pecancrete. Detail shots of the tool. It's not readily apparent in the photos but there is a very shallow depression ground into the top of the tool making the wings ever so slightly higher than the nose. .40
December 9, 20223 yr Thanks. Quite interesting. Let us know how it works for you and the learning curve.
December 11, 20223 yr Cool I have never heard of that tool. Looking forward to hearing how you like it. “pecancrete” says it all. I have been turning some lately and can feel your pain. Robo loves his scrapers. This gouge looks close to one. Edited December 11, 20223 yr by RustyFN
December 11, 20223 yr Author I had a chance to try it out yesterday on some green pecan. It works just like a gouge for the most part. I found that it worked best more closed rather than open. This is a tool for finishing cuts and doesn't remove much material. Light touch and slow your feed rate. I was able to get good cuts on the bottom 2/3 of the interior and all of the exterior. Dropping the handle slightly so that the tool was cutting above center seemed to work the best for me. Finish cut example. .40
December 11, 20223 yr I'm glad you liked it. I made this tool years ago with an Easy wood insert and used it in the same manner. I remember having to be careful of a catch. It may be harder to handle than your new tool since it has the totally round tip. I had to be careful not to get onto the threaded hole.
