Dewalt plunge on router

I bought this combo at a pawn shop. I thought I'd try the plunger out on the poker table. It's difficult to get in the router in the plunger base. Is his normal  for his model?

Could the latch adjustment nut be a little too tight?

Looks like I’m going to start ignoring Dewalt routers unless they are dirt cheap.

Totally agree. I've added yellow to the list of colored devices (except planers) to the red saw blades, to avoid. My collection of plungers consists of a Bosch Colt, a Freud 3 hp VS, and two PC 690s. All are 15+ years old and have given excellent service.

Wonder if the previous owner over tightened the adjustment screw and compressed the opening radius/diameter?

I had problems with the+DW625 routers with the speed controller. I have the DW621 and have had no problems. The DW625 routers were used for raised panels and the DW621 was used to cope.I replaced one Dewalt 625 with an old school PC router and the other with a Freud router and so far so good. 
 

Obviously I  maximize the router use under heavy loads for extended time. “ It either takes, or I breaks it”

Had a Dewalt 625 in table till a few years ago it froze up or bearing seized. Only last month got a Ryobi at Estate sale to replace it. Had no complaint as that 625 swung some heavy bits. Have a Somerfield mini raised panel set I thought I had sold but found it when I bought the router.

We ran Dewalt routers in our three Probotix CNCs since buying them.  Set the speed dial one under the max as the bearings in them weren't designed to use at the max speed for more than a few seconds.  Had to replace brushes a few times.  Had to replace one entirely when a student cross threaded the chuck.  They like to heat up (too hot to touch) the chuck/bit when used on the CNC for a few minutes or more but otherwise served well for 10+ years. 

I've got one DWP611 in a plunge base and it fits fine and slides smoothly.   

 

I am slowly moving to brushless cordless trim routers.  Loving my my Milwaukee M18 trim router. I'll keep using my Dewalts until they don't run anymore if/when that happens as the accessories for them and the mount on my CNC relies on them.
