Audio cabinet

H ace posted some of this but decided to get it as ll in one place. The Church asked me to build a cabinet to replace the one I made a few years ago gift storage of audio equipment in the gym. Original plan was ply and paint it  but then fell into 8 oak planks 25” x 12’. Has had termites so most needed 2 inches off edges. 

 

not pretty but a little saw work and planing did good and still the price was right.

No work today so here is what I workEd on when I got home yesterday. Planes and scrapers. Yes I know Steve can do it all with planes.

More scraping today. Got most of the plane marks and glue residue today. Trimmed the side panels to width. Will start sanding tomorrow. 
 

 

Yes there is more than one scraper on that panel, but I do have three more sharpened and ready to use.

Today made progress and got the carcass glued up. 

 

Had done the dados yesterday so today trimmed the shelves to fit. Problem : dado just a little ways too narrow. Now we have our ways, the old 78 and a wooden plough plane.

 

 

So box is not square. A little pressure at two corners and all is well except then the back also needed the same treatment.

Carcas out of clamps and trimmed the doors to size. Used a horizontal raised panel but to do edges of door. Started preping stock for drawers. 
 

 

did a test of carved and painted lettering on the oak. Only on top will be painted green and letters for school carved then painted white.

Made a little progress today. Glued up sliders for electronics. 

 

got shtick prepped for large drawers . Had to glue up some stock for these . 
 

 

Letters were taped in place and outlined with burner. 
 

 

Began carving the letters for later painting.more of that tomorrow.

Well didn’t r add ke pics yesterday do two days worth tonight. 

 

completed the drawers for electronics and ready tor slide mount.

 

 

Got the c carved and tonight carved a P.

 

 

 

Cut the lock drawer joints and the groove fir bottom panels. All with the new to me router.

 

 

Than all that into the clamps. Hope to mount slides tomorrow and carve the last letter.

One more day I said but not to be. 
 

 

Laid it on bench yo do the bottom drawers. Just not up to all that low down stuff. 
 

 

Used spacer to set height for drawers. And wouldn’t you know every space is different. 
 

 

Finally all drawers in and sliding nicely. Well thinking just a little finish sanding and done. Nother thought coming. Filler needed for some small bug problems. 
 

Did get the last letter cut in . Maybe ready for stain Monday. Yes I work on Mondays.
