August 22, 20223 yr Popular Post Started another scroll sawing and grinding thingy. I was gonna watch the Nascar race but was raining and while I waited I went out to the shop and started another go at at another project. I have had this picture for a few years and there is a looking glass in the middle of the frame but I will probably change that area over to another clock. Like I don't already have enough!! I attached a backer board to this prepared maple, glued the picture on and started sawing. Finished cutting it away from the waste. Came back in to see if they had started racing, no , so I went back and took the backer board off and cut the frame away from the center section then cut the frame in to many pieces and am now ready to start the grinding, carving process. Oh it sounds like that is too much work for every one out there but I make it more fun than anything else. I leave the picture on the pieces to be carved so I have a starting point for all the pieces. The little screws showing is how many it takes to hold all the pieces on to the backer board. One side of the picture is more distorted than the other so I had to wing it and my bad eye don't see the same thing as the other eye so its a good thing the sides are far apart from each other and ain't nobody can see both sides at the same time anyway.
August 22, 20223 yr Author This morning I started grinding the center down .and its starting to make the carving pieces show up more. I'm using an oscillating drum sander for this area. It finally starting raining this morning which is the first time in years or so and that means I won't have to mow dead grass and can spend all day in the shop. August 22, 20223 yr Don't sell yourself short, Jesse. No matter what you start with, you always end with a piece of art.

If you make it a clock, that picture under the "looking glass" sure would make a cool looking clock face. Good start so far. Lots of detail in this once. Edited August 22, 20223 yr by Grandpadave52
August 23, 20223 yr Author Dave I done did away with that and this is where I'm at right now. Just playing with different things in between making frames for wifes stained glass nativity scenes as it seems like Christmas is already on folks minds. I haven't cut a hole for the movement yet so it is sticking up 3/4" or more too high. Gene I been short all my life!!!!

You got the patience of Job to do that plus they all match. I can't even match my own writing from one time to another any more let alone little curly queues.

August 25, 20223 yr Author Cal I just mix it in with the water base paint so I can keep working. I figure I only have about 31 1/2 years left to do this woodworking so I'm trying to stay in the shop as much as possible!
