I have been getting caught up with some logs I have accumulated and am rough turning some bowls.

I will coat them with green wood sealer and put them on the shelf for a year.

I write the wood type and date on the tendon with a sharpie so I can burn it in the bottom when it is finished.

Looks like you got it down!

I wish I knew a faster way to safely dry them. My plan is to rough turn a bunch of bowls so this time next year I will have plenty to work with.

I would say not to get in a hurry. Once you fill the pipeline you'll have more bowls ready to finish turn than you'll believe. In the meantime you can experiment with turning to finish green. Turn a green bowl to 3/8" thick or less and it's not likely to crack as it dries as long as the thickness is consistent. Yes, they will warp but that can add it's own charm.

The wife has plans for me. She needs three large segmented bowls. I will add those in as I am rough turning the others.

I think Steve hit it, Just keep turning and you will have plenty, BUT do not miss out on the instant satisfaction of turning green to finish. It can give some interesting experiences.

How thin should a green finished bowl be turned to? I would like to try that.

I've turned some natural edge bowls, green, to a little less than 1/8". No cracks and very little warping.

I turn to 3/8 and less. 1/4 seems to be a good size.
