Popular Post Gerald Posted March 22, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted March 22, 2022 As I posted on Monday morning I did turning demo at the club Saturday. Got a big catch that broke the bowl in two . Then at home got the idea to glue back together. So decided to try to cut out break and glue in some African mahogany I have. Still not a perfect joint but will try epoxy with micro powder to fill. will try to cut the excess before mounting on lathe this afternoon. So here goes nothing. Fred W. Popular Post lew Posted March 22, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted March 22, 2022 Great idea, Gerald! Can't think of any reason this shouldn't work- pretty much the same as making a segmented turning. Grandpadave52, Fred W. Hargis Jr, Gerald and 3 others 5 1 Quote
Popular Post Woodman Posted March 22, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted March 22, 2022 I would have kept the two halves and made wall sconces. Artie, Fred W. Hargis Jr, lew and 4 others 2 5 Quote

Popular Post Gerald Posted March 23, 2022 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 23, 2022 Forgot to post the pic last night. Final turning went very well. Did get some tear out at glue line and may go back and carve or pyro that line. Al B, Steve Krumanaker, Cal and 7 others 10 Quote

What kind of glue holds that together under the stresses of turning? Used TB III but any wood glue should work. Just take light cuts and speeds below 1000. I did cut off the ears before turning. I have been told at below 1000 RPM any breaks just fall to the floor but I think that maybe should be below 800. Edited March 23, 2022 by Gerald Artie, lew, Cal and 2 others 4 1 Quote

By micro powder, are you saying fine sawdust, or sanding dust, or it that a separate product altogether? And yes, your repair doesn't look like a repair, but rather like a planned design. Good job. Well upon looking again it is mica powder, but it is a very fine powder to add to epoxy or use in craft projects as a highlight. You would use a very very small amount of the powder and it is very eyecatching. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HNE78KK/?coliid=I1ZND6LURDCHRN&colid=37JZT4YAV2SU5&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Grandpadave52, PostalTom, Woodman and 2 others 4 1 Quote
