March 22, 20224 yr Popular Post As I posted on Monday morning I did turning demo at the club Saturday. Got a big catch that broke the bowl in two . Then at home got the idea to glue back together. So decided to try to cut out break and glue in some African mahogany I have. Still not a perfect joint but will try epoxy with micro powder to fill. will try to cut the excess before mounting on lathe this afternoon. So here goes nothing.
March 22, 20224 yr Popular Post Should be an interesting contrast. Hoping for success. Keep the thread alive and yourself too.
March 22, 20224 yr Popular Post Great idea, Gerald! Can't think of any reason this shouldn't work- pretty much the same as making a segmented turning.

March 23, 20224 yr Popular Post Be interesting to see this when it's done. It will be a great save if it works!
March 23, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Forgot to post the pic last night. Final turning went very well. Did get some tear out at glue line and may go back and carve or pyro that line.
March 23, 20224 yr Popular Post Great save Gerald. Love the contrast. Just as you planned it from the start. Appreciate you sharing the "trash to treasure" success story.

Just take light cuts and speeds below 1000. I did cut off the ears before turning. I have been told at below 1000 RPM any breaks just fall to the floor but I think that maybe should be below 800. Well upon looking again it is mica powder, but it is a very fine powder to add to epoxy or use in craft projects as a highlight. You would use a very very small amount of the powder and it is very eyecatching. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HNE78KK/?coliid=I1ZND6LURDCHRN&colid=37JZT4YAV2SU5&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
