January 6, 20224 yr Author Popular Post The way the day was going....wasn't from a lack of trying by the saw....kept just missing my fingers...but, I kept things cutting wood, and not me. Also found out that Cedar has a very strong attraction to concrete floors....
January 6, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Clamps came off today....sanded to clean things up, and square it up. Then gathered a bunch of c clamps... Plan being to spread a bead of glue along the bottom edge and then clamp the base to it....needed to flatten the base, first. And, find a few cauls, too.. Then set this aside, for a day. Decided to give a spokeshave a test drive.... I have used the straight edge part, before, but not the curved one.. Some Ash scrap...maybe a handle size? Started up rounding the corners, a bit... Had to rotate the stick once or twice...I just MIGHT have this thing sharp enough..and set just about right.. Question is...oval handle, or Octagon handle? Just in case one of the hammers snaps their old handles...always nice to have a spare.
January 7, 20224 yr Popular Post That worked very well on a round over. Guess I will now have to look for a round over spokeshave. I would guess they are very rare as I do not recall seeing one.
January 8, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Out of the clamps...into the vise for a quick clean up Then mill 2 dividers, and glue them in place.... Need a place to set the tray, after all (no..I do NOT varnish the insides of Cedar boxes) That should do...close the lid... And call this Project done... End view? For scale, this is only 4-3/8" wide on the ends..finger joints are 3/16".. Top 2 holes in these hinges? They miss any wood...had to drill a new hole. Those nails along the bottom edges...help hold this in place..besides a bit of glue, of course Places where those 2 small planes could not reach? Yes, that IS a plane sitting beside the tray...No.101 size. Spokeshave for the curvy spots.. Thanks for looking in!

Just checked MY smallest plane, and found a barely legible "101" on the casting! 3 5/16" long, and my most-used plane! Even kept it in my carpenter's apron while building the house... great for removing high spots and ridges on 2x lumber!
