My boss texted me had I made a full size nutcracker. He wants two for his porch. My question is has anyone done this ? If so what wood and where can I get a plan?

Wood type shouldn't matter much.  They'll be painted and not outside year round.  I suspect they will be heavy.  Don't know how exacting you want the plans.  There is this.

Not that I'm skilled enough to make one, but I've wondered the same thing. Marie has a huge collection of nutcrackers and I'd like to add one made by me to the collection. But I never got past the "wondering about it" part.

Well now, a good swift kick should do the job.

You may want to consider using MDO.   Danl

I just realized that this post is in the turning category.  MDO may not be a good choice for turning.   Danl

Hes said something about sinker cypress but I am thinking dimensional pine. Also did not ask about the painting as I am not that kind of artist.

Me too, Gerald. They don't make artist's brushes or, any other type, to fit my hand. :(

All it takes @lew, is patience and practice. That's why I never went to medical school. Figgered I'd never have enuff patients for a successful practice. I'm good at drawing...conclusions...usually, the wrong ones. Let me tell you about the time I asked a fat lady in Wal-Mart when she was due.

Funny story on this . We have a guy "A" in the woodturning club who has no shame and asks personal questions of everyone. We are at a symposium and one of the guys is talking to a lady who sells wood. So this guy "A" strolls up and asks the question "When are you due?". Well when she answered he did not even blink and continues the conversation. When we are having a dull moment we retell this story.
