November 9, 20214 yr Popular Post Did the week just end? It must have as that was a weeks worth of work.
November 10, 20214 yr Author Popular Post Ok...what started out as just cutting a spare bolt to length....devolved into a full rehab.. Had to replace a bolt because half it's head was MIA.. To replace it, I cut a Tote's Toe Bolt to length ( from the spares box) needed to clean up the threads a bit...so out came the grinder with the wire wheel and the cloth wheel...got to looking.. This had been spray painted a flat black...just won't do....then more parts got cleaned and polished up...took almost as long to then sharpen the iron,,,clean a bit of rust off the sole... Then put things back together to test drive the plane.. That be a BIG back porch it has...ok..shavings? Test Track is an Ash 1 x 6... Gets hard to stop..way too much fun...This is a Stanley No. 6c, Type 17....I do have a couple of it's older brothers... "Little Brother"? (Type 11,) A Stanley No.6c, Type 10...( 2 patent dates) and the "Elders" Top shelf is a Stanley No. 6, Type 9 ( no grooves) Bottom shelf is a Stanley No. 7c, Type 9.... And that should do it for Gene's planes... Stay tuned, have something a bit different to rehab..next

Finally fired up the desktop; have been using my tablet since coming back. I'm not smart enough or my fingers are too fat to respond with pictures. Anyways, I'm sure you know but Steven, but others may not. The triangle logo or "V" aka "Victory" trademark was used from 1912-1918 Image from Virginia Toolwork's Site_Stanley Trademarks
November 16, 20214 yr Popular Post I am wanting a joiner plane. What am I looking for as far as numbers or models?

November 17, 20214 yr Popular Post That #8 is beast! I call it an aircraft carrier. Plenty of heft and a great jointer.
January 20, 20224 yr Author Popular Post So...for just under $70 counting tax.. SS Heft & Hubris has docked....Starboard side.. Almost need a tugboat to swing this around.... To the port side...A Stanley No. 8c, type 19 That be a LOT of grooves in the "keel", Compared to a No. 7c..... And...the 7c is 22" long. The No. 8c needed it's iron re-done.. As this is too pitted to sharpen...grind until that black line is gone...then regrind the 25 degree flat bevel.. then stones and paper, then a strop.. Then a test drive or 2... Almost done. I think the older No. 8, type7 can finally enjoy a retirement...and let the "youngster" take over.
January 20, 20224 yr Popular Post Ya' did good Bandit. Good investment, save & restore. If the dungeon shop isn't big enough to turn that aircraft carrier around, let me know. I'll hook the trailer on the truck and be over.

I may just take you up on the offer one of these days if my back & leg ever fully recovered. Can't quite make the state line yet in a single drive let alone the return trip. Did enjoy the day we all spent @Fred W. Hargis Jr shop a few years back. I won't show up empty handed though, I'll bring the donuts.
January 20, 20224 yr Popular Post Nice work Steve ! Those planes are beautiful. I have learned so much about planes from your posts. They are part of the art of woodworking that is fading into the past but you are doing very well at keeping it alive 👍
