My interest in building Flintlock guns these days has lead me to viewing a variety of videos on the subject. This is a great one demonstrating the "background removal" of a relief carving. This is of course woodworking, hopefully some carvers here on The Patriot Woodworker can get something from this wonderfully done video.

"Mike talks about the relief carving techniques he uses to achieve an acceptable finish. This video focuses on how to remove the background wood on a golden age flintlock carving."

You'll find, in another 30 years or so, that becomes even more important as you age.

Getting porch , shop and house ready for turning club meeting here Saturday. Plan to power wash the rest of the porch today.

Was working on a crib for the Pastor's wife family Saturday, stripping paint. This crib was used by her grandmother for her mother, and by her mother for her. They do not know who made it but after talking to her mom I think it was made by gg grandfather or grandfather. While stripping some spindles discovered they were blue first and then pink and lastly white.

Spent the morning in the shop.  I got the lid for the covered cocobolo bowl turn, sanded, and 1st coat of tried and true oil.

I had originally planed to make the lid out of canary wood, but after looking at some photos of others projects made from that, I decided that it wouldn't be a good match for the cocobolo.  It would have looked like someone wearing a camo t-shirt with a pin-stripe suit.  I chose Ash instead.

You aren't supposed to mix those together?

Hmmm, who knew.  Nobody ever said anything to me when I did.

The smoked baby back ribs turned out great.  It was also great to see the nieces and nephews...seems like yesterday they were just little kids.  There were no leftovers.

TOP SECRET

EYS ONLY

.40's Home Grown Native Texan Rib Rub follows:

This is a hot and spicy rub that builds heat as you go.  Recommended to have plenty of cold beverages handy.

Ingredients:
1.5 tablespoons coarsely ground black pepper
1.5 tablespoons finely ground black pepper
2 tablespoons coarse ground kosher salt
2 tablespoons demerara sugar, granulated (ok to sub brown sugar)
    1 tablespoon onion powder
    1 tablespoon Adolph’s tenderizer
    1 tablespoon Paprika
1 tablespoon whole cumin seeds, toasted, then ground
    2 teaspoons chili powder
    2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, rounded
    2 teaspoons mustard powder
    2 teaspoons garlic powder
    2 teaspoons hot curry powder
    2 teaspoons allspice berries, ground

Instructions:
Add all ingredients together in bowl of food processor.  Pulse until entire batch is a consistent color.
    Transfer to a shaker.
Coat all surfaces of meat with EVOO prior to use.
Apply rub generously and coat all surfaces. Allow meat to rest in refrigerator uncovered on tray for up to 12 hours.  Apply additional rub when transferred to smoker if desired.

Got the shed framing finished. I enjoy framing, but I’m not very good at it. Good framers are thinking 3 steps ahead-I’m usually 1 or 2 behind.

Hoping to order the metal roof panels tomorrow. It’s a local company and when I asked the lead time, they said 4 hours!

Supposed to have possible severe :BlackCloud:today, so probably won't get them changed out.

Back at work. Frankly I need the break.  Got my son's Mustang up to snuff so he could go home with it.

He'll be back next Sunday to retrieve his Corolla. And a list of more stuff to fix on Mustang.
