Now I thought I was making myself clear so maybe I should have said to change the appearance of the chrome chain with a liquid. I even cleaned the bottle before I took the lid off.. I pour a little in a plastic bottle with the chain, shake it for a few minutes and wa la its magic. Also they make other colors, a bronze and black and more ?I was assuming everyone already knows all there is to know about anything..

  Bernadette makes lots of the solder in pictures black maybe when she is trying to put peoples eyeballs on the colors of the glass she used instead of the dull solder?

  I come up with a little wall attached to a band saw so I could have something my height to play around with getting the chains hooked in to both pieces so the bottom piece will hang right. I had ruined my left should muscles the other day bringing down some trees and this is the shoulder that got all the muscles reattached about 15 years ago and the doc told me then if I ever pulled anything loose in there again there would be nothing they could do next time. Cal just get ready for in another 40 or 50 years you will get to see how all the problems of getting old will affect you...I already can't crawl around on my right knee for it got a full replacement with plastic parts and I was told then to never put my knee cap against the floor for it has been ground down to half as thick as it use to be and if it gets cracked in two that will be another, just tough luck... 

  And then I realized I didn't have a 3" forsner bit  and I thought, well silly, you have a scroll saw that will make any hole size needed.

  Also Cal I neutralize the chemical after it has done its duty changing the chain's color using Johnson's paste wax. I have never read where it needs to be done that way but the wax at least makes it feel better but I also run water over the chain after getting the chain out of the bottle...there are other colors available also besides black there's bronze and maybe a green????

 I didn't realize the photo was blurry  but it is the only one I took and too lazy to go back out to the shop.

Lew is there anything I could clear up in my descriptions. This all starts with the scroll saw and the screws in the back that I put in critical places as I cut the outsides away from what I will carve with the grinders are very critical when it is all carved and finished. The screws have to be very small for they go real close to the edges of the wood and if I don't put the right size holes in for the screws they would bust out most all the small wood pieces and I am gluing them in and it has to be done quick before the glue sets up...The screw holes have to be drilled as I cut along the edges with the scroll saw so I will know where the edges are. Once I saw all around the entire piece and through away the waste then I can take off the backer board to proceed to cut away each piece to carve.

  I also use sheet metal screws for they have the same diameter threads sticking out all the way down the screw. Just don't start trying use a regular tapered wood screw for a person could never get to drill that exact taper all the way down the screw and some of the screws will bust out the wood and this is a no no for that calls for a time consuming repair before one can continue. One needs to hold the screw behind the drill bit and only see the very outside of the threads to have the correct size hole drilled....And using number bits is the only way to go for there are many more sizes to choose from. I like to use the bits that are in with the counter sinking tool for this chore.

  So each piece that I will cut away from the other pieces has to have screw holes made in them before I can saw them in to small pieces to carve... This way when all is ready to glue all the pieces back together they can be glued and screwed back where they came from for this is exactly where they were before all this started being worked on.

  The scroll saw can make all the pieces small enough to hold in a persons hands and does away from having all those sharp and dangerous expensive knives where now he can use any kind of a large grinder down to  a dremel using 1/16" shaft size bits to get in to where these small things are needed.

 Also much faster to completely finish building something like it took less than a week from thinking about building this hanging clock to taking it in to the house finished.
