I decided to maybe make this hanging clock. My eyes have gotten to where everything I look at is about the same anyway. even though its hard to seen what lines connect where?

  Every time I walk over and pick up this picture I see things I have never encountered in my so called wood carving life so far so it will be fun to see how I do. Maybe it will keep me out of the BAR ditches!

Well  I thought I was going to work on the wall hanging clock thingy but an urgent request for a learning prop for a youngster and his home schooling.

 

Baltic Birch is nice to work with... 

The mom wants the names of the states and their capitals on the back sides.

   

So this detour didn't take long to get this far on this project. Also this is giving me more thinking time on the hanging clock thingy..

  Just a thought, if your work shops had a sink like mine does cleaning the brush for each different color is no problem!

 Also I think it would be better if I covered Texas with gold leaf.

I thought I would try and turn out something on the top piece first and this is where I stand after a morning of grinding,

 

 

I think this guy is called a gargoyle and have never dealt with one before so the picture I'm going by is not helping a whole lot for it is so small the details are not there. I believe this is the hardest thing I have messed with using wood....

  Now wife has handed me a definition of a gargoyle and it says it is a water spout so this guy must be something else. I do go back a ways in time but adding medieval to that time in the past and I must have been asleep if I was there then? 

This is the second sitting playing with the gargoyle?

Maple wood is not easy to carve with the dremel but at least the wood don't dent too easy like bass or whatever!

  I'm trying to turn him into a clown instead of one of those other things I never heard of.

It's coming along Jess, and whatever it turns into will be likely just what you were wanting...

I have to smooth the wood sometimes to see where I go from there.

I cut out the hanging part this afternoon and it looks like I might be grinding on this part for a few days and yes it has two baby faces to try and copy . Wife said I aught to just take a picture of a couple of the guys on Patriot and glue it on instead of carving them!!!!! Hey I got

to thank her for that suggestion for it sounds good. And it goes along with things I have heard in the past as people are always saying they wish they could start life over again and next time they would try and not make so many stupid mistakes.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Well this thing is taking shape better that I had thought of when looking at the fuzzy picture. Spending a couple of hours this morning has taken me farther along than I had thought..

 Cal thinking back when we met you guys in Eastland I think I remember your looks would not turn the police against you just real quick for you have a clear cut type of face so, whups, I did not say queer cut face, I think, but maybe you aught not speak to anyone if traveling through Texas again. I think if you just pretend you are dumb and will not answer the police for you can't hear what they are telling you so that just might work? But since you will probably bring up my name when trying to get past the cops in this here state I could go up to a dollar for your bail.

I'm almost ready for another project. This afternoon and two hours of doing stuff and I'm almost ready to put the color and gloss to it .

 I have a 3 1/2" clock insert I think I will use instead of the 1 7/16" the picture measured with a little carving around the dial but its so blurry I can't figure out what to do to carve it so I think the 3 1/2" dial looks better anyway.

Those colors really bring out the details that were hard to see up above in the earlier pics.  It ought to really pop when you put the clear on.

Those small details wasn't there then. I usually post pictures so I can study what else I should do..... should I make some things more visible or go over some places with a round diamond bit in the dremel to smooth certain areas and reduce the deep lines. I'm finding in most instances things can be changed back and forth until I can get the looks I'm after...

  I hope you or anyone else when I say all these things I'm certainly not knowledge enough to actually know what it is I'm doing. I do realize things can be changed until I completely run out of wood by grinding things away and still not getting what I would like to see..

 In the original picture the angel? on the left only has one wing. The other is not visible. So I take a few hours and make the little piece of wood, its missing wing, and place it on top of the red area and connect it to his or her body. So things like this confuses me as to leave it gone or add it ?

 I keep thinking about a lady named, grandmaw moses! she didn't take up portrait painting until she was 98 and become famous. I don't need to get famous. And like you mentioned in your post as I would like to get to where I am completely satisfied with my doings when I say I am finished with each project.

Now all I lacked was copper chain and screw eyes so I made some so tomorrow I will glue it all together and try to get the two pieces hanging straight with the chain.

 So far things are looking better than I expected. 

 I did change some chrome chain to copper which I think will look better than the chrome. I could have made the chain black but that might be on the next set if someone wants it that way.

  I always have a back room in my shop waiting for things I don't accept kinda like the two girls with their fancy clothes showing off and its their faces I still can't get anything to look right. I did draw up ones eyes on the left side of her nose and for a while I thought, why not?????

Looks great, Jesse. The choice of copper for the chains was a good one. 

Changing chrome chain to black or copper or bronze just go to a stained glass supply and I think Hobby Lobby has it also.

 After it changes color I then use Johnson's paste wax and it takes the ruffness off the feel.

What is "it" Jess?  I thought you simply bought some copper chain.  I know, foolish of me to think that
