Gotta play electrical detective

Featured Replies

While in the midst of a rip cut in 3/8 pine, my MK V up and quit. Just like the switch was turned off. Checked power from the outlet. All good. I suspect a loose wire internally. Hoping a visual inspection reveals the cause because my diagnostic tools are still packed away...in one box or another.

When I read this, the word that came to mind was SUCKS, as in That Sucks! Hope it’s an easy fix.

Or a worn out squirrel.

The suspense is too much! We have an appt. with our bank at 10:30, then we're taking our DIL out for a birthday brunch, today. But, I think I can get the SS opened up beforehand to see if I need something in town. Darned sure I don't want to make the trip in to Tucson twice.

Good luck with it Gene.  Were it a loose connection the old electrical fix of a good smack might get it going again.  What type of switch does it use?  That's were I might start looking.

Cal, the switch is my first stop. Easy fix so, fingers crossed.

Had the switch on main TS go out few weeks ago. Thankfully I keep paddle switches in stock.  I continue to change old switches out to the paddle ones as I can.  Just like the large red OFF paddle better.

New switch installed. We're back in business.

If you guys have squirrels in your area I would advise moving them away from you a good distance. About three or four years ago my neighbors lights started flickering and he couldn't find the problem and had an electrician come out and he found all the electric wiring in the attic had been stripped of all the insulation on the wiring in the entire attic......His replacement wiring bill was 10,000. I had been joking with him for a long time  about buying dried corn on the cob and having it hanging around his yard for as long as we have been living across the cove from them...

At least he could afford the money for he never carried any insurance  for health, home or nothing on the auto's except liability..

It's a lot easier to keep the squirrels out of the attic.  It'd take years to trap and relocate all the squirrels here.  Can't look out the window without seeing six or them.

No squirrels.  These two love to hunt them.

Ours love to watch them out the window.

Gene, I had problem like that and about 2 days later, realized I had plugged into a multiple circuit with a breaker.  Pushed the breaker button and it worked fine.  Then pulled the bar from the outlet while using the SS.  I had Dusty trying to tell me how to use an ohmeter.

Gene, you need to buy a lottery ticket.  You’re a lucky guy.
