June 22, 20215 yr Popular Post The TV in the family room blew out some time ago and it was impossible to find an exact match on the outside dimensions so I am forced to make a new frame. A fairly quick job this morning giving me a break on the media room project. The wood is Honduran mahogany. Paul
June 22, 20215 yr when i built our current entertainment center, i intentionally did not try to 'frame' or constrict the opening for the TV, knowing that it will die someday and require replacement, and that new TVs will be different in size and proportion. the cabinet under it is 50" wide (most that the space available would allow), and the future TV can extend beyond that width a bit if needed.
June 22, 20215 yr Author Popular Post That was my thoughts too but I am just the woodworker that gets to build the thing. Her version is just build another frame. Every job gets a glitch. I went to fit the frame and what I did not notice when measuring for the frame is a small protrusion centered on the bottom edge about 3” wide and extends about 1/4” below the bottom edge. It’s for the sensors. Bummer. It would have been an easy cut out on the router table before it was assembled. Tomorrow is another day. Pul
June 23, 20215 yr random person: can you build XX, and i want it built just this way. me: you can either tell me what you want built, and i'll figure out the details, or you can tell me how to build something, and if it doesn't turn out the way you imagined, that's your fault. you are hiring me as the expert with the shop, I get to make the important decisions that affect the long term viability of the item. not you. otherwise, you do it and leave me alone.

Precisely why I don't go to the mechanic and say something like, "I need a new water pump," bur rather, "I keep having problems with overheating." Right, @Gunny ? Edited June 23, 20215 yr by kmealy

June 24, 20215 yr Author Popular Post I agree. Very interesting piece of wood. I’m anxious to see how it looks after in oxidizes a little. Paul
June 29, 20215 yr Author Popular Post I got back from the boat last night so this morning I managed to get the frame installed. Paul
June 29, 20215 yr Perfect job Paul, absolutely clean and beautiful. Also, I love the screen occupant, Hendrix!
June 29, 20215 yr I just noticed also the detail on the shelf below, when you originally built the center, the grain and the black triangle, really cool.
June 29, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Thanks for the comments 😃 Zebra wood is my wife’s favorite accent wood so we use a lot of it. Below is one that she came up with for the dining room which I think is my favorite. Paul Edited June 29, 20215 yr by Masonsailor
