Trust me - that thought crossed my mind! :BugEyeSmiley:

I did add to my knowledge base yesterday while ordering the bearings.  One of the bearings removed was a 6101 RU.  The RU doesn't mean anything today, ordered a 6101-ZZ, which will be an upgrade with seals on each side.  The second bearing was a 6202 Z.  Fortunately the Timken catalog had not only descriptions and size diagrams, but pictures to boot.  A simple 6202-Z would not work, needed a 6202-ZZ-NR.  The NR indicates it has an outer groove and snap ring.  This bearing keeps everything in check with snap rings on the shaft to hold it in place and the outer snap ring to keep the shaft from wandering.  I did upgrade to the double seal ZZ.

Likely Gunny and Dan were already aware of changes in the bearing identification system over the years - but for the rest of us, be advised that if the machine is older the bearing ID numbers may be a bit diffferent.

While the bearings were a bit expensive, the machine (A Reliant) has been a good one and I cannot begin to replace it for the cost of these bearings.  I have had it a good many years and have done a heap of sanding with it.  I have the shaft cleaned up, and a new belt at the auto supply today.  Bearings should be here next week and we'll be back in business :)

I'm going through a phase... A couple months ago my old C'man belt sander wouldn't start up.  It's old, well used and abused, I'll look for another one - and I have, off and on but I haven't replaced it yet.

Over the weekend I was working on a project (folding deck chairs) with our daughter.  Lots of odd shaped pieces so I was using the small bandsaw, got about 1/2 done and the blade snapped.  No problem, I changed blades on the larger bandsaw and went back to work - a couple pieces cut and that blade snapped!  No big problem, we had enough pieces cut out that I could busy myself sanding pieces and parts until I go to town on Tuesday.  Well, about done with that and the big sander decides to throw a bearing.  Now we have a problem.  Sander is torn down and bearings removed, hope I can find replacements today.

:ChinScratch:... Story of my life Cal.

So "He's" been by your place too!

Been taking a bit of a break with things waiting to see how this second dose of covid handles up before I start up on projects again.  So nothing is on the bench this week.

Glad you got them both! It seems that any 2nd shot repercussions, if any, only last around 24 hours.

The shots are supposed to be harder on the younger crowd.

Our 13 and 14 Y.O. grands had no problems with the first one. Haven't had #2 yet. We'll see.
