Stained Glass Artwork Frame

Delivered the finished frame ordered by a friend of Mimi's. Their design and choice of wood. I used threaded inserts and bolts to attach the frame to the base in case the glass ever needed repaired Those are the only metal fasteners used in the build. All four edges of the glass set in dados. I modified the original design from 3/4" thick base material to 3/8" thick material. The holder is designed to set on a window sill. To reinforce the top 45° miters, I used a cherry spline. It sort of matches the staff color in the design. I'm told this symbol is called a Caduceus.

The Sketchup drawing for the customer-

Great job on the wood work Lew. You might want to warn who ever made the glass that there is not much stability in that narrow width for a base and if they might have young peoples looking at the nice picture that young peoples like to touch and pick up things like that. Might save a comeback!

That was my first question to the designer- any dogs, cats or kids in the house. I did make it so that the "tipping" direction would be towards to window instead of the room. That's what they requested. I did not do the glass work- that's way above my pay grade.

I was just thinking about wife making all this stained glass and she has to fix cracked glass often and I build frames around her glass just strictly for hanging so the repairing is kept at a minimum but hey they still manage to break some.  And it is quite a job to replace glass out in the middle of the picture somewhere. Just a thought from this end!!!!

I forgot to say my wife's only advertising is word of mouth so once this is in some ones home a friend will like the frame and where did you get it made thing, so good luck!

Thanks. This piece was made to hang up. It even has built in hooks on the top.

My cats would see that as a target / challenge.  :throbbinghead:

Great work all around Lew.

Excellent work.  That looks great.

Nice job Lew 😃 Caduceus they are. Part of my Navy uniform for years as lapels.
Paul

Looks great.  Your miters are much tighter than the Sketchup :)

I somehow missed this when first posted, very nicely done Lew!
