April 2, 20215 yr Poplar mill is dang near done. A lot of sanding to do on it yet. I tried something a bit different this time I made a deep cut on the bottom of the mill right abouts to where the rod would stop at the bottom of the mill body. I proceeded with the tenon cutting tool and etched in some grip lines into the wood. I made them deep enough so that I'm hoping when I go to sand it down that it wont sand so far down that the cuts dispensary. More or less for grip and some minor decoration. Still got to figure out how I'm going to finish off the top piece. I guess I'll have to swap out the jaws for the 25 mm jaws. A good Friday at least. Small note on this one I used NO EWT carbides what so ever. I only used my HSS gouges. Edited April 2, 20215 yr by AndrewB
April 3, 20215 yr Author A few things to work out with this I guess I didn't sand them all the way off so that's a good thing I guess. This one may turn out to wind up looking pretty decent. NOT gift worthy though.
April 8, 20215 yr Author Sadly the poplar mill wound up being a bust wasn't done well enough started on a new one with some of the wood I had just ordered. If I new how to merge most of my pepper mill threads into one I would be doing that to clear up space. How ever I did start on some of the maple. I thought this was going to wind up going into the yard bin how ever it wound up coming out quite decently. In the short run I wound up using the EWT 2 inch face plate it made a heck of a difference rather than using the live centers and having the piece off center. This went a lot smoother. @lew any suggestions on thread mergers Id honestly like to try and get most of my mill stuff into one thread not sure if that can even be done. Anyways heres a shot of what I've got done so far. Its shaped needs to be hollowed out. Learning how to sharpen my HSS gouges is seeming to be working out I'm just going with the angles that they came with so once I get that down I should be good until I get a bowl gouge.

I think the best way- going forward- would be to make a blog. It could be titled maybe "Pepper Mills" and then each post could be a new entry. I'd have to check with @John Morris to see how to move the already posted entries in the Woodturners Forum to your Blog, if that's what you wanted to do. The Patriot Blogs are located at- https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/blogs/
April 9, 20215 yr Author From my understanding I know there is a way to merge similar threads into one grouping just not sure if that option is available on here or at least under forum host power that is. It may be under administrator power not sure how they have their perms quite set with this site.
April 9, 20215 yr Just checked my permissions as moderator. I can merge your posts. I can work with you to get the posts you want merged. Maybe @John Morris can give you some advice about the process.
April 9, 20215 yr Author Yea that's what I was thinking of was doing a merge post, I guess you can say that my OCD finally caught up to me...
April 9, 20215 yr Author Not exactly sure as of yet but its getting quite late for me as I'm always up early. Step by step instructions for me usually do quite well until I occasionally mess something up....
