Pencil Making Factory

Saw this on another site and was intrigued.

Here is a link to the kit

Somebody spent some time developing this kit.  Now they need customers willing to pay $700.00 to make something no one uses.

At a $1.96 per pencil for material only is just a tad high.

Bridge City tools also goes by the name Harvey tools, both websites can make Woodpeckers look like cheap tools.

I think Lew will be able to afford a couple of those kits for gifts!

Interesting but highly unlikely to sell many if any to people I know......most have good sense. The only way it's worth it is if it only writes the correct answer every time. Surprising they aren't gold plated!

I have seen other products out there that are cheaper for putting lead in your pencil.

Other than a couple of mechanical and carpenter's pencils, I don't think I have bought a pencil in 40 years.   I am still using one that I got in college.  Well, maybe I got some for the kids when in grade school.

After that, I think I would send it out for artisanal sharpening, it's only $100 per pencil http://www.artisanalpencilsharpening.com/

Or I just continue using the freebies and sharpen with my FastCap measuring table's included sharpener or the Boston sharpener I bought in 1970.

Got a friend that is schoolteacher, she got me 1,000 of them cheap.  Still working on that supply for last 15 years.

Certainly here in the land of the free, I don’t think that it should be illegal, or immoral to sell these kits. Having said that, it does seem to be an informal IQ test. 700$ plus to make a very expensive pencil. NO! Not a mechanical pencil, which in theory could last a lifetime, BUT a regular pencil which will get ground away as it’s used. Maybe I can sell the sawdust from my shop as VERY expensive gerbil cage liner, or some other very profitable crap. Don’t get me wrong the quality of the jig seems to be museum quality, but it still seem to be a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. If someone were to gift me this jig, I honestly would attach it to the wall and call it art (little a, capital a would be me LOLOL)

In 2018 I went to a trade show with the wife.  As in the past there was the vendor's room (where SWMBO was located).  Lots of free trinkets, hats, pens and snacks; but not a pencil to be had.  I had planned to get a few pencils for the shop as I had in previous years... I ended up buying a small pack at Office Depot.  Same trade show in 2019 and there were pencils aplenty - but I didn't need any :PullingHair:

All trade shows were cancelled last year, and wife has now retired.  Should have picked up a bunch of them in 2019

Only a nickel I would make it at least a dime. After all have to pay the light bill. I get my pencils at the Ag Museum when they have events the egg council has tons of them and erasers which come in handy for me. By the way I think this is correct that mineral spirits will remove pencil marks.
