March 17, 20215 yr Popular Post Having used a few thrown together racks for temp work over the years I now have room for a purpose built drying rack. Watched a bunch of videos about drying racks and tried to take what I can use from those builds. I generally do not do 30-50 doors and such so no need for 50+ racks. I do make alot of drawers of various sizes and smaller boxes, frame and such. This gives me 9 racks, 7 of which are adjustable width. This was not something I saw in anyone's build but something I found in using thrown together racks for a project. Added a extra dimension to the build but I expect that detail to prove worthwhile as I begin to use it. The metal frames used to hold a file cabinet assembly a co-worker had. He brought these in and suggested a table. The are bolted together as they were, I just drilled mounting holes, no cutting. The top which has a removeable middle was part of a cart for my parts washer I recently decommissioned. Still in good shape I reused it. The removeable middle may, or may no come in handy. Started out like this: Built a cart base: Edge banded some OSB for the rack storage below. Borrowing a trick for inlay @steven newman gave me I routed out a section for each horizonal mounting pipe. The made a matching inlay for all four holes. This way I can take this apart as needed. In this case to finish all the parts separately then reassemble. Thanks @p_toad for the hand plane last year, it gets used. Did a test fit: Took me awhile to finish all the pieces and let them hang from the overhead racks I built for paint storage. Finished build, ready for next project. Racks are level across all 3 pipes, this took some fine tuning one evening. Access plate for assembly / disassembly. Middle can adjust to either side. Pipe are stored below, need 25 maximum, can store 26. Just made it.

Have noticed a big difference in the quality of the finish as far as dust and such. Alot less time fixing issues like that. The temperature of the room is regulated with a radiator heater and has stayed a steady 700F on the low setting. Once the weather gets warmer I can get the fan unit back into the window for ventilation.
