March 8, 20215 yr Popular Post I thought this sounded like a good price but wanted to run it by you all for a second opinion. Around 30 minutes from me a guy has some hickory, red oak, white oak and maple. They are all 7” by 9” by 8’ long. He wants $30 each.
March 9, 20215 yr Popular Post That's less than $1 per board foot! Put your mask on and take the deal (it's a steal). Find some one local with a Wood Mizer and have them slab it for you. Even with the cutting charge you're ahead of the game!
March 9, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Thanks everybody. I am thinking of buying four of them. He is supposed to call me tomorrow.
March 9, 20215 yr Author Popular Post I picked up one hickory 7 by 9 by 8 feet, two spalted maple 7 by 9 by 8 feet and one cherry 6 by 6 by 8 feet. Got all of them for $110. Some of them have the pith in them but still a ton of good wood.
March 10, 20215 yr Popular Post Surprise y'all this man just bought a new lathe. Ain't no slabbin here. Rusty try turning from endgrain . I think you will like the grain patterns you will see in endgrain bowls.

If anybody is close enough to Cutler Ohio to make it worth it let me know. I would be happy to pass his information along if it will help you.
March 11, 20215 yr Glad you got a real steal. Hope you have lots of fun with all that. My inexperience would have removed the pith first. Looking forward to your turnings from this. And, I'm envious of your shop.
March 11, 20215 yr Author Popular Post I started to turn one of the blanks from the spalted maple. Had to go somewhere so I will have to pick it back up later.
March 11, 20215 yr Looking good. You should put a plastic bag over work left for later if it is wet wood. It may dry and crack while you are gone.
March 11, 20215 yr Spalted maple will break if your not too careful with it found that out the hard way....
