For a number of years, I've been using mustard squeeze bottle tops on my glue bottles.  Something about the mustard design solves the problem, and glue pops off the outside without blocking the outlet.  When the level of glue falls below 1/2 of the bottle, I simply place the bottle upside down in a cutoff mayo container so I get "instant" glue, no waste, ready to go.
