I turned a quick bowl out of that Osage orange I was given. I turned it thin and dried it for a week. Then I thinned it out a little more, sanded and finished with wipe on poly. It didn’t turn out as orange as I thought it would.

Agree with Lew, still a pretty color. Lots of grain too.

Looks very good Rusty. I agree that’s a nice color. I’ve never dealt with that wood. How hard/dense is it ?

Nice looking bowl Rusty.  Osage Orange is a great looking wood and has always been yellow in my experience.  Like everything else it turns to brown eventually.

It didn’t seem any harder than the walnut and maple but I turned them all green.

Rusty, You do know that that beautiful bowl will turn a rich medium to dark brown, don't you? Exposure to light will hasten the process. 

Once thoroughly dried, Osage Orange is one tough timber. A friend makes his Boule marquetry holding devices and work stands from Osage.
