To flatten that sole, and work on the iron a bit....there is a grinder, if needed..

Iron needed a "fresh" edge...too many pits on the old edge....Paint?

Turned out, I didn't need that can of black..just the primer, and the "Red Pepper" Red....

Old paint and rust were removed with the wire wheels....then a couple coats of Primer..

I'll come back for this, when the paint is dry...:Tapping:

Paint wasn't working...:ArguingSmileys::MachineGun:.removed this knob, had a spare...sanded that one back to bare wood...and gave it a dark coloured stain....The sides and sole of the base were next..:ChinScratch:

Sides were a bit rough...disc sander remove 90% of the rough...Disc and beltsander flattened the sole...cloth wheel gave things a decent polishing.   The iron needed sharpened to the new edge...flattened the back...

A few more sharpenings will get rid of the few pits left....didn't feel like burning through them:WhoMe:, right now.. :ChinScratch:

Red paint had sat a day....Knob was dry...bed for the iron to sit on was flattened a bit...

The two towers the irons sits on were rounded, and one was taller than the other...Dremel fixed that.  Wide bed at the mouth opening needed sanded smooth and paint blobs removered, until the iron would sit without any rocking going on....

I have a cheap paint brush in the shop....I load that up with a bit of 3in1....and give the base a good rub down...then a wipe down....Then set up some nasty looking pine to use as a test track....not only to make some shavings..

But to get the iron set just right....lateral is by hammer taps....depth was also by taps of the hammer....That nub on the back porch?  THAT is for the hammer to tap on, to retract the iron.   Trying to get this plane to look as it did when Millers Falls sold ones like this, as the No.707 V-Line Standard angle Block Plane.   A few squiggly lines on the sole with the old candle....calling it done...

Beautiful rehab.

:Praise:
