Interesting. 
when I’m turning, Especially using a chuck, I wouldn’t want to have to remove it to use the sharpener. Also  moving the banjo/tool rest in the middle of a cut to sharpen might not be desirable. 
 

i can see if you only did spindles/pens it definitely would be less expensive than a bench grinder

I do wish I was able to attach it to the backside of the head stock but there’s not a way to do that unfortunately.

Like Lew, this is what is a common complaint about machines such as Shopsmith.  You have to remove the stock you are turning to set up the sharpening system, then take that down and hope to reset your stock and hope it is as true as when you took it down to do your sharpening.  Of course, that is how I do it, but normally, I sharpen all my tools after I finish turning.  Then I can normally turn one or two objects before having to sharpen again.  I do not turn bowls, but spindle work.

What is the recommended speed for using this Andrew?  Any chance you could salvage the old Griz into a permanent set up with this?
